Carbs: the favorite fuel of the body. It's a lot cheaper to just eat an oatmeal creme biscuit or some sugared confection for driving a workout.
Even better is using maltodextrin/dextrose - about 50grams/200lb. weightlifter. That mixed with protein powder for muscle sparing and repair will fuel you thru a 2 hour workout.
One thing to avoid before unloading that trailer, working out, or diddlybopping with the wife is fats. Fats slow digestion and won't really be used for fuel in the presence of carbs. You'd have to be on the Atkins or some such lowcarb diet for that. If the digestion is slowed, you have less fuel (carbs) for the muscles to use when they need it for ATP production (for energy).
For really tough workouts, we use thermogenics, preferable ones easy on the nervous system like Pharmaplex. It, like energy drinks, doesn't do the muscles anything, but really ramps up the motivation. I don't take these anytime less than five or six hours before bedtime, or ya can't get to sleep, even though the original "rush" is long gone. If you take two pills trying to double the effect, what usually will happen is you'll just feel giddy and sick, and not very energetic. Sort of a mild overdose effect. One will make you feel like you just HAVE to do something.
Doubling energy drinks can ramp up the metabolism a bit, but is an expensive way to do it, and not as effective.Baack Thanks this. -
VemmaPower is about the healthiest energy drink on the market

I'll take your word for it until I can try a can. I did some checking, and I just hate the hardsell MLM marketing...and REALLY hate the links that say stuff like "Why I quit Vemma" or "Warnings about Vemma marketing" and then turn out to be a trick ad for Vemma sales.
Definitely a good thing if the antioxidants, vitamins and such are there and it gives you a boost that is big enough for the job. I take the other claims of supernatural properties with a grain of salt, having tried so many herbal drinks that don't do anything, like Akai, Mona Vie, Noni juice etc.
It is possible that our diet here is good enough, and we exersize and take vitamins, so that these drinks can't really improve on what is allready good health. My bloodwork proves me out well, albeit low in testosterone and a little high in cholesterol, but that's my age and cheese addiction at work!
Edit: I can't believe I forgot the OTHER energy booster: a vitamin B complex. Works VERY well.Last edited: Apr 17, 2009
