Hello all. I am a stuntman in the tv/film industry. I hold a Class A CDL and at 1 time before getting into stunts, I drove for a living for about 4 years. Obviously I'm not in trucks every day and just have a quick question or two.

I have an upcoming stunt, very simple, but I just want to gather as much info as possible before hand as I don't really receive a lot of info prior to the day of work, nor do I get much time to familiarize myself with the truck.

Question is, on trucks with the ability to split gears, if I'm running empty do I still need to split each gear or can I run through the gears normally without splitting gears?

Also I attached pictures of the truck. A Kenworth. Based on the picture (sorry for the poor quality) any idea what transmission will be in there? Attach33135_20180503_180257.jpg

If I was running empty, I would only spilt the last two gears at the most. I would guess that truck has a 13 speed, so just split 8th and 9th. If on flat ground, just 9th would be fine.

You can shift without splitting; you can even skip gears if bobtail.

It probably has either a 10-speed or 13, but could be 9, 18, auto...

Don't mean to insult you, but just to be sure that we are talking about the same thing, you know the difference between a splitter and a range selector, right?

That looks like a mid 2000s ex-Palmentere Brothers truck to me. Not sure if they run autos or manuals.

No insult taken, I appreciate you asking. Splitter is the button on the side that allows me to go to say 5 lo to 5 hi by taking my foot off the gas pedal correct? That is basically what I am asking, if running empty, can I skip this process.

Yes. I just asked because I've heard plenty of people refer to the range selector as a splitter, and you don't want to skip low range.

And yes, you can skip it. Basically run it like a 9 speed.

Unless it's a super ten, then don't skip.
