It's called complacency and we are all guilty of it. The bad thing is complacency can kill and has in the past.

YOU'RE DUMB!!!!! Lol! It happens sometimes. And you're good enough to admit that you made a boo boo. Happens to the best of us. All of us make mistakes. It's the true professionals that learn from them. Hell, I was in a hurry and almost dropped a trailer on the ground. Twice. Lol. Good luck and stay safe!

Those moments are called having a "D. S." attack as in Dumb Sheet. You tell somebody about it and they call you a dumb sheet. Just wish I had a lot fewer then I've had.

Mistakes are just a way of learning...the hard way! I had a heck of a time trying to find an empty at a UPS yard in NC. I found one, but didn't back all the way under letting the jaws lock because I wanted to make sure it was empty. Well, it was, so I hooked up lines, raised landing gear, pretripped trailer, ect. I was good to go so I got back in the truck and sent off the empty call, updated the log and pulled out. I got out of the hole and started to turn and next thing I see was the trailer dropped with my air lines on the ground. Guess which part of the pretrip I forgot? Big wage UPS guys driving by and another driver from my same company saw it. There I was feeling like the biggest horses *** in North Carolina cranking the landing gear in low until my arms were about to fall off. From then on, I always do a tug test...after I hook up and when I start to pull away.

Yep i agree with everyone else those mistakes happen and the goal is to learn from them.

I'v dropped a couple trailers in my 1st year of driving it doesn't happen anymore I'll tell ya, But the worst one i was in a big
rush and started backing under the trailer and wouldn't you know it it was just a hair too high and i backed under the pin smashed
into the headache rack i had at the time got out of the truck all mad at myself started to crank the trailer up, it was fully loaded
at the time with 65k pounds of beer talk about heavy anyway hopped back in the truck started to pull ahead ya i didn't raise it
high enough and slammed the kingpin into the adjustment bolt on the front of the 5th wheel. Little did i know at the time hitting
that bolt had just shattered the locking mech of the 5th wheel. Got back out cranked some more and finally got out from under
the trailer then lowered it down to the right height baked under the trailer heard the click raise the legs connected the air lines
and took off i got maybe 6 inches before the trailer slammed to the ground all i can say is i was pissed got out and started cranking and cranking on the trailer to get it back up to proper height. this happened before i learned the trick of dumping the air
and using the truck to lift the trailer, so finally get it to the proper height back under it once more hear the click get out this time
and check yep the jaws are closed so off we go again i might have made it a foot this time before dropping the trailer on the
ground. So another 20mins was spent cranking that SOB up. In the end another guy ended up taking the load while i waited for
the shop to open in the morning to find out i broke my 5th wheel needless to say i now to the tug test before raising the legs on
    the trailer.

And i never did hear if any off the beer got smashed from me dropping the trailer twice and with all that weight it didn't go down
    easy

I have pulled the wrong trailer home before. 142 miles one way!! Ended up having to waste half of my Saturday and 40 gallons of fuel, all because I was in a rush to get home for the weekend!!
