I have been unemployed/underemployed for about 18 months. I decided to go and get my cdl a back after 10 years without it. I did a two week school and was offered a job with the company owned by the school.
The stupid part was that I had been smoking weed while unemployed. I had to take a pre-employment screen. I had quit just before starting school but still failed the test. I have no intention of smoking anymore but seems like I may be permanently screwed with driving jobs now.
I actually tested on a friday, drove a truck from CO to TX the next wednesday, and drove for the next 7-8 days before I got the call to go park the truck, you tested hot for pot. Can't say I have ever been this embarrassed, or ever been fired form a job in over 25 years of working.
What happens now?
I do not have the 2-3 years of experience most companies want for insurance requirements.
I can not use the school or the job as a reference as I am pretty sure she will disclose my indescretion.
Now that is has been well over a month I am sure I can pass a screen, and I am not going back down that road.
I am a very good driver with a perfect mvr. I want/need to work and I am willing to do whatever it takes.
Since I only worked about a week I have considered not listing this job on future applications and trying for a fresh start. I would like to get back into the oilfield arena and I know they need drivers. Do I have a chance still?
Stupid mistake...advice?

Whether you use them for a reference or not they probably filed a DAC report . Don't try applying to any major carriers .
Where are you located ? -
*Sigh* Why, why, why do people keep doing this crap and then act all surprised when they get nailed for it? It ain't rocket science people. You get this junk in your system and get caught you are TOAST.
Love the way they just gotta have their smoke even when they know it will cost em but will argue that pot ain't addictive. Sure thing Smokey.jrjsi, Marksteven, Hanadarko and 1 other person Thank this. -
I am in Colorado. This was with a very small company, not sure if they use DAC. How long after they make a report does it show up? I would like to check before I bother trying to get back into the industry. -
Where exactly did I act surprised?
The opportunity came up very quickly and I didn't want to turn it down. Congratulations on being an expert in my life story though, and for the salient comments, as worthless as they were.Last edited: Nov 24, 2011

Firsts off partner you need to look at it like this. It's not a mistake, you intentionally smoke it so now you must deal with consequences of your actions. Second this is not something you just did, using your statement you are approximately late thirties to mid forties, I for one do not believe this is the first time you smoked pot, you have been doing this your whole life. Time to grow up. Your problem started along time ago you just happen to have been called on it now.
WitchingHour and jrjsi Thank this. -
Oh nevermind, I can answer this...because they can't get a backhand online. -
You've got a tough and long row to hoe. Good luck!
jrjsi Thanks this. -
Run your DAC, I am sure it will be on there by now. If its on your DAC you won't be driving for anybody that uses DAC.

Being nice to stupid people don't work. As for ATTITUDE, I've long since EARNED the right to get po'd at (Post edited because it didn't meet site rules) like you. Think you'll make 4 million miles? I doubt it very much.Last edited by a moderator: Nov 26, 2011
