Stupid logic is thinking newbies spend 12 hours a day hauling freight. If they did they'd make enough money to stay in the industry. Most spend as much time sitting as you did in your cab.

NOTHING! Why should I? Im busy trying to do something for my family. I dont expect anyone else to do anything for us. Why would someone expect me to help them if they wont try to help themselves?

Prime has the short midget trucks, not a whole lot of room after you get out on your own. The cooler or refrig. has to stay in the front passenger seat, some I guess have this taken out. They have apu's in them so you don't have to worry about idling. Generally they have the inverter's too.

You will most likely have to pass the bmi test or do the sleep apnea test at a lot of companies including Prime.

There is a $100.00 fee due at most places, 1st thing.

You will need up to 3 yrs w2's to show them for your employment. Long form applications need 10yrs work history, if you have gaps for some reason let them know before you hop off and leave only to find out they won't hire you (most places think this is because of a prison sentence perhaps).

If you have any meds, make sure you get a prescription for them that is at least 3-4 mo worth of refills. Walmart I hate to say is in of the easier places to get into to have them refilled.

Passport will need an official birth certificate with the seal on it, it will be mailed back in several weeks and the passport separately. Forgot how much the fee is for this.

Campus Inn is at Springfield, does not cost anything while you are in classes and they have meal tickets for meals. Afterward you pay for the meals. They have bedding on the beds already, like a motel.

Make sure that you lay off the salty blood pressure raising foods, esp if you have high blood pressure, stay away from coffee and sodas, tomato sauces until you have all tests done.

You will have to have some sort of address, I believe some use a post office box # and then the actual street address of the post office.

You will need a truckers road atlas, most use Rand McNally. Some things can be bought after you get to a school.

If riding a bus, it is a good idea to have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with you to eat just in case you get hungry.

To save money on meals you may want to eventually buy one of the 12 volt burton stoves, or a small crockpot even, or a microwave. With sandwiches and pre-bought supplies from Walmart you can save a lot more money and eat better.

While out with a trainer, it will be according to what they have in their truck if you can cook on it or not otherwise you may have to live on lunchmeat, or get the canned chicken or tuna, and peanut butter. Most truckstops have the hot dogs or hamburger dogs too, apples and bananas.

I have been planning on driving a truck for years, even before I ended up in a suburban cab. The appeal was that truck driving, even though you might only earn 30k the first year, typically pays 45k and more when you have several years experience. Truck driving has always been a serious career aspiration to me, and never a homeless shelter.

Most homeless people cannot help themselves. I don't mean to get political here, but do you even realize how hard it is for a person to get off the streets? Let alone a white person?

With the economy the way it is it is hard to say what you would make the 1st year. Just make sure you save up for the slow months Dec-March or so.
