Yikes and did the Doc detect a pulse at that BP? That's pretty good. And the resting BPM is excellent. I think the key also is how fast it comes down to that rate after a strenuous workout. I'd be hard pressed to get it down to that even though I was fit in my youth. My wife's BP is very low too so she gets teased about it. And she eats salt like it's going out of fashion. I know mine fluctuates around the 118/70 mark and I've never smoked, despite hailing from the UK where you have 3 times as many smokers as here. My weight is stable at 180 and I've got you on age. I'm 62 tomorrow. Don't you love it though when a doc gives you this line about being remarkable. He's comparing your stats that should be nearer the norm but aren't of course and all he sees all day are folks massively out of shape and on all kinds of meds. It shows what you can achieve with a bit of nutrition sense.

No that's my point. I'll never buy or consume yogurt with sugar added. I got off sugar completely about 40 yrs ago when at the height I took 4 tsp in tea/coffee. It's just that plain yogurt is pretty bland. But the honey is a good idea or I may just make a salad dressing out of it. I even thought about dark chocolate from Venezuela which could work and just has a touch of sweetness about it. I'll search online for cacao nibs. Maybe Amazon might sell them.
thanks -
The only store that I've found that sells cacao nibs is Vonn's in southern California, and not all their stores stock it. Next time I'm there I'm going to try and stock up on a few pounds worth. Kind of crunchy like granola, lends a touch of not too much bitter, and goes well with a cup of blueberries.
-
If you want to explore another outlet I've done some business with rawfoodworld.com and they do have organic raw cacao nibs of a few varieties.
It's something I haven't tried but would love to give them a whirl.
These people have got some interesting stuff. You can tell they are nutrition "nuts" in a nice way.
Some of the things they sell I have never heard of but they seem to be committed to providing good healthy and nutritious foods. Definitely worth looking at.

Interesting article about sugar and should we be surprised. What's scary, is it goes back to 1971 and if anything the sugar lobby is as strong as ever. If you do the research, you will probably find that many Senators/ Congressmen have connections with big sugar and nothing will get done while this kind of corruption goes on. I'm sure that the FDA are in cahoots too. But sugar now has competition as in HFCS.
And further to your article I have a really interesting book on similar lines about sugar. Written in the 1930s by a dentist called Weston Price. He went all over the world to study different cultures and societies to discover what damage was done to teeth and bone health by sugar and processed foods. What is fascinating is that he discovered many folks who were rather primitive in lifestyle and yet, had perfectly formed teeth.
In fact he found folks that had never even been to a dentist as they didn't have access to one but had virtually no dental caries. It was all down to what they were eating.
Conclusive proof how western diets play havoc with teeth and sugar is the great enemy.
So it's outrageous that the sugar lobby have managed to manipulate and convince the Govt into hiding the truth, all these years.
The book is called "Nutrition and Physical Degeneration" It's good for our continued education and how corrupt the food industry is. But at least we know what they are up to. Dentists for years have realized how bad sugar is to teeth.
Alas, I doubt anything will change anytime soon so we have to seek our own paths to good health. I've always felt the Govt guidelines with their food pyramid was bogus. Written by "special interests" Who could care less about our health. Just think about the consequences and how it impacts the healthcare industry, as a huge cash cow. It's nothing more than a racket just like big tobacco.
Weston Price Foundation has a website and promotes the consumption of foods such as raw milk. -
I was listening to Robb Wolf's podcast the other day and he is now sponsored by'"Thrive Market". Looks like Costco online for organic, gluten and sugar free stuff. I had a quick look and the prices don't seem to heavy.Lepton1 Thanks this.

i strongly urge everyone to eat LESS
thats a start, stop being a slave to your stomach,
many of us eat big meals, then drive (ie sit) and eat another big meal
most of your hunger pains are in your head, teach your mind and body to control your hunger and you will eat less, live healthier
stop eating junk (or at least cut down about 90%)
if you smoke, cut that down too,
my personal suggestion is to eat light when you wake up, eat your big meal in the middle of your day (whatever clock you drive with) and little or nothing before going to sleep
try to eat only things that you can read the ingredients, if it has more than 10 letters, dont eat itLepton1 Thanks this. -
I try to be HUNGRY at the end of my shift, so I can dive into a salad for dinner and go to sleep.
During the day it is fruit: couple of bananas, apple, orange, and maybe a couple of handfuls of nuts.
Eating less is important. But I've found that eating a lot of FIBER fills me up with FULL calories (lots of vitamins and minerals), so I'm not feeling a need to snack on high calorie, empty calorie foods.
My sense of taste has changed. Can't handle the sweet stuff anymore. Out of some sense of loyalty to a chocolate bar brand (Black & Green) I bought a couple of bars yesterday at a Walmart. Big mistake as they have 5 grams of sugar per serving. Now if I'm buying chocolate bars I normally buy 3 grams or less per serving, and immediately I could tell the difference as soon as I bit into this new bar. WAY too sweet for me. By comparison a Hershey's bar has over 20 grams of sugar. This is why whenever I can I buy pure cacao nubs or use 100% cacao (from the bakery section). I've started to acquire a taste for the bitter of the chocolate.
My "go to" ingredients in my salad MIGHT include: kale, chard, spinach, beet greens, cilantro, basil, Italian parsley, raddichio, chives, garlic, ginger, dill, sugar snap peas, sweet peppers, baby tomatoes, or avocado. Whatever is FRESH and if organic is available I buy it. My dressing is a pinch of sea salt, virgin olive oil (maybe sesame or walnut oil), and balsamic vinegar. -
Easier said than done. Everyone is different. We've been brought up a certain way, by our parents who meant well but in many cases were dysfunctional in themselves. Lepton and I are big advocates of eating zero junk, and the least amount of carbs that you release into your body. If you study the comments on this thread it will give you an insight into how we think and we have done our research.
You also must realize as I've said a few times, is that we are confronted with a corrupt food industry who could care less about our health and the Govt does nothing. They're both in bed together. In fact I think that the food supply is not diverse enough and is controlled by too few corporations who have only their own greedy interests at heart.
And I agree that hunger pangs is in our heads but doesn't everything start from up there?
If you saw what I do on the truck, you will quickly realize I'm dead serious about my health and nutrition as everyone should be. But it has taken quite some time to get to this situation. Doesn't happen overnight. I used to be a fat kid and that's no fun. And cutting out carbs to virtually zero is NOT easy. It takes perseverance, but the rewards are there to see.
but alas many are just not motivated to take an interest so it's going to take a lot of effort to change the present culture of eating in this country. -
The battle over the FDA's proposal to change food labeling to note "Added Sugar" is heating up. Think of 100's of millions or more being spent on lobbying:
Food Industry Waging a Bitter Battle Over Proposal on Added-Sugar Labels
My own journey toward regaining my fitness began when I became so pissed off about what the food industry is doing with sugar. I hope the Added Sugar labeling becomes law.
Sugar in lunch meat? Really??? -
My wife puts sugar in the bread dough mix inc so that the yeast will rise. I've told her umpteen times you don't need sugar to activate yeast, just warmth will do.
I tell you another thing I notice when I watch the Food channel on TV and it drives me crazy. Especially on programs where you see a lot of cooking and recipes. Virtually all of them seems to include sugar as an ingredient. Why are we obsessed with adding sugar?? It's nuts!! No, it's SUGAR!!
Lets face it though. We should be very wary of food manufacturers now. The stuff they put in foods is ridiculous. Additives galore, just to make their foods look "pretty" and have a long shelf life.
Ill go further and say that the quality of food in this country across the board is the worst I've seen in all of the countries I've visited. It's quite shameful.
Im all for the labeling of sugar but let's in addition jump on the most important labeling and that's GMO warnings.
Monsanto has spent millions on defeating the proposals in CA and OR but there's a shining light that Wholefoods is going to start labeling in 2018 I think. Monsanto is suing The state of Vermont over this issue. It's a scandal that will grow legs as time goes on.
Its a disgrace that we can't have truth in labeling laws in the US. Corruption at its finest, because lobbying is out of control. The SUGAR lobby is hard at work " sweetening" their bed buddies in the Govt. The fight goes on. And that IS the Bitter Truth!!
End of rant!! Now where was I?White_Knuckle_Newbie Thanks this.
