I'm looking to get my CDL so that I can get a driving job where I'm home daily. I live in Lynchburg, Va. Truthfully I'd be looking to keep this job for approx 6 months then move to the Twin Cities area of Minn & get another home daily job. What is my best bet for going about doing my training. I have looked into CDS Tractor Trailer Training @ Virginia Western Community College. I was thinking here in Lynchburg like a soda or beer company or something of that sort. Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Most likely your going to be footing the cost of school yourself, local gigs are not going to pay for that training, unless you were to get on as a dock or warehouse worker and then move your way up the ladder via company training. But, that will take significantly longer than 6 months.

    Yankneck Thanks this.

Like the above poster stated you're most likely going to have to get your CDL on your own if you want a local gig. Also, someone will eventually come here and tell you that you have to start your career OTR. That's absolute horse ####. If you have the patience and can sell yourself you can't start with a local gig!

This is not sounding as easy as I had originally thought.

If the community college local to you has a CDL program that would be your best shot. You'll maybe be able to get some sort of financial-aid/student loans/pell grants to help with the funding. As far as local jobs you were correct in giving the beverage/beer companies a try , don't rule out the fuel haulers either ( as long as you get that endorsement , tanker /haz-mat... which is a good idea any way) they pay much better than the beer folks lot less hands-on work too. Try the LTL companies close by...don't let those signs 2 years experience required throw you...apply anyway..No is painless., and you might even get an interview.
