I decided on this truck for my 2nd put deposit on it yesterday It has a Cummins isx 450st in it with 400,000 and 13spd it is a 2013 my problem is my last truck was a freightliner dd15 I understood it and I had a book to tell me what and when my last truck was brand new but I'm treading in new water I got a used truck instead of a new one
I have no clue what is best oil to use and do I still change it at 25000
So what's a good maintenance schedule for a Cummins
The truck going to have new brakes, pmpm, 10 tires, 100+point inspection, and dot sticker when I go pick it up after 4/16
Is there anything I need to be aware of with this truck or need to keep eye on the last 587 I drove I was a 2007 as a company diver
Suggestions on how to do maintenance on a Pete!?

How's the dyno on it?

HSP is 455 ii didn't ask about the torque with it being a 13spd I assumed the torque is around 1600+

You should be able to find the operators manuals and the other books in the truck, as long as the prior drivers did not toss them in trash.
Have a talk with you regular service shop about the truck, they should be able to help set up a good service plan.
You may want to visit the web site for cummins and see what info they have available. -
Change fuel pump and turbo and turbo actuator now if they are all original
I would even stipulate to see the fuel pump as it is taken off the truck
If it has chips off of the plungers that motor is finished
Fuel pump and turbo live for approximately 400-500k miles on these units and when they quit it often is the death if the engine. So change as preventative maintenance. Yes turbo especially is expensive. $4500? What's an engine cost? $45,000?Cat sdp Thanks this. -
No Miss, I mean when it was on the dyno to test the engine and the blow by, how did it do?
This test is the first one to tell you if it is worth buying. -
Use Delo oil and change it at the same interval as your Detroit, use an aftermarket Turbo when and if you need one and watch your cooling system for the presence of oil and your dipstick for the presence of moisture.
The EGR tends to fail and let coolant into the combustion chamber and then the pan, the oil coolers tend to fail and let oil into the cooling system.
Both issues tend to give early warning signs and are much cheaper and quicker to fix than if they reach a critical state; the guys who know what to watch for get great service from these engines. -
