Suggestions to small towns along the interstate

About 35 yrs ago, I was walking down a sidewalk past a business. I tossed an mt soda can in the gutter. Some dumb ### janitor started yelling at me.

I ignored him and kept walking. He came over, pushed me and tried to place me under a citizens arrest (*you can't arrest ppl for littering, even cops can't, because it's a petty offense and a cop can only issue a citation). I went along with him inside where he called the cops. After app. 15 minutes I called cops myself and told them I was assaulted and kidnapped.

When the cops got there they handcuffed him for assault and false imprisonment. I didn't wanna press charges so they just made sure he knew not to place someone under a citizens arrest except when the law allows that (which varies widely from state to state.) I regret not having sued his company. That would have probably been close to $150,000 in Arizona in those days.

*Littering can be a felony but that's usually an illegal dumping charge, not just an mt soda can.

 

Not to worry, if it was a felony, and you went to prison, Arizona law still says when you get out you get a horse, a gun, and a 50 dollar gold piece...
