I'm new to this page but I'm having a hard time figuring this out
My truck is a 93 fla
    12.7 Detroit
On the truck right now is a regular 10 speed
    Rtx12610b
    3:90 rear ends
    The original transmission was a
    Super 10 rtlo14610a
Someone is saling me a super 10
    Rtlo16610b
My question is which transmission is the best for my truck ?
Just a little more info I pull a step deck in Florida with a about 47k in cargo looking for my truck to feel little faster n to get a good fuel mileage

Some guys will argue but when I first joined this forum. Super 10's were the HATE.

I had one. It was in such bad shape. It kept blowing out rear ends.
Another one I drove. Locally. Kept locking the truck up every time I tried to use reverse.
Mechanics were always fixing that one.
They seem to be indestructible though. Even if they don't work good.

I do not care for 10 spd's at all, but I would rather have a regular 10 than a super 10 anyday, BUT, that tranny you have in there is a light duty, at least the one you are looking at is the heavier torque rating, but I doubt it gives the truck more power.
You need to check and see what the difference in the ratios are though before you do a switch and make sure that is what you want.

Go to the Eaton website and look at the gear ratios between the ABC models of the Transmissions you're looking at.

For example that rtlo 14610a has a low gear that it's only 10 .02. I had two Freightliner both that came from the factory with 12.7 Detroit and the C ratio Transmissions. The C ratio transmission gives you a much lower low gear of 12.80.

Check the ratio charts and see what transmission would be better for you.

Running Florida, with 390 gears, I would want all the overdrive I could get.

Ok I look on the Eaton's website n this is what I got
    Rtx12610 final drive is 0.78
    Rtlo14610a final drive is 0.75
    Rtlo16610b final drive is 0.74
Correct me if I'm wrong but the lower the number = lower rpms in 10 speed?
N thanks for all the replies

0.73 is going to run a lower rpm than any of these. But they are all really close. 0.87 would put you running about 5mph slower @ the same rpm.

I always tell everyone not to waste money upgrading a transmission unless it’s a RTLO 13 or 18 speed

I'm the same way. If you're going to put out that kind of money and go to that kind of trouble why move laterally?

Depending on where you are traveling you may even want a double Overdrive.

    Are they still available?
