I have a super 10 transmission with an odd, annoying problem. When going into 9th gear the speedometer drops to zero and it will not shift into 9th. If anyone has had a similar issue would sure like to hear.

    I use to have a super 10.

Get rid of it & get a 13 speed.

Sounds like maybe 9th may be wiped. The higher gears are usually the first to go. Pull the plug and see if there's any large pieces of metal on it, If there is, take Bakermans suggestion. Make sure you plug the hole, so all the oil doesn't run out, I usually use my middle finger.

if you end up replacing the transmission the Best transmission ever built is a 18-speed you can shift it just like a 9-speed or you can split any one of the gears very handy for climbing hills that's pretty much all we run in Alaska and northern Canada.
Second choice would be a 13 speed.

Is it a Super 10 "Top 2" by any chance? The Top 2 has the option of shifting between 9th and 10th automatically. Its a setting in the ECM. If its consistently losing speedo and not able to make the shift to 9th, try skipping like you're going straight to 10th. (wind 8th up high and allow a deep rpm drop on the shift)

The speedo problem is puzzling. Possibly someone routed the speed sensor cable in the area of the shifter. It could cause problems and in a Top 2 possibly make the ECM flake out on the auto shift putting the trans in 10th when selecting that position.

Finally. don't listen to these "replace with" guys. What they mean is "I don't like something so its useless and I have no problem spending your money." Super 10 is a great trans as 10speeds go. When you get the hang of using one its a dream. 13's and 18's are great but are a "nice to have" for 99% of trucking.
