Excellent area for tanker truck drivers.
Attend a private or community college cdl school, then hire on with a tanker company that hires new cdl school graduates.
I'll give you a list of tanker companies that will hire you right out of school, then you can contact the ones you're interested in and ask if they hire from Houston Community College, and if not, which school do they hire from. Probably all of them will hire from Houston Community College though.

First year tanker drivers have no trouble making $60K - $65K, then it goes up from there.
    McKenzie Tank Lines
Gemini Transport - hauls diesel for Love's Truck Stops
    Trimac Transportation
    Schneider Bulk
    Western Dairy Transport
    CTL Transportation
    SVTN - www.svtn.com
    Superior-Carriers
    Tidewater Transit
    W.W. Transport
Foodliner - recently started hiring new cdl grads.
All the above hire new cdl graduates. Some websites may have "experience required" so ignore that because they all hire new cdl grads. CDL school counts as experience. Some companies give credit for 1 yr. experience for cdl school and some give credit for 2 yrs. experience.
Trucking is a good career; you won't regret it if you get started with a good company.

I did company training in Dallas. Never had to share a dorm room each room just one bed. It's hard work but I'm paid well not indentured servitude at all.

If you do a dorm room deal like that just don't bring a game system with you. As far as I know all the guys that brought their game systems with them washed out of the program.

That's a real good price. Many companies, including some tanker outfits will reimburse the tuition back to you in monthly installments. Don't let "tuition reimbursement" be a deal breaker though when choosing a company.

Hey, what's with the positive comments?
You're right though. Try telling a new driver it's possible to make $1500 a week with FFE right out of their training and all the vultures come out of the woodwork with their naysayer comments. Many of the naysayers have been driving for decades and still don't make that much. I guess it hurts for an experienced driver to see some new guy, still wet behind the ears, making more than them. Doesn't bother me; I'm very happy for any new driver that has the work ethic to do that.

@crowskeet you can always go to workforce solutions and inquire about wia programs to get your cdl at no cost. Once you receive your benefits you can either go to HCC, lone star transportation or san jack college.

    Good luck

First, contact Schneider and ask if they'll pay for cdl school, then put you in their tanker division. Sometimes they do this. Plan on hair follicle drug test for all these outfits. If you've done anything within the last 12 mos., go with an outfit that just does urine test. Urine checks back 90 days.
Second, look at these that have their own in-house cdl school:
    CFI - www.cfidrive.com
    Western Dairy Transport - www.wdtmilk.com
    FFE (Frozen Food Express)

Last week's check was almost 1900. Its not the driving miles it's everything else that kicks it up. If I just drove and nothing else it would be about 1000 a week. It's fantastic pay but very hard work. It's the same miles as what an OTR/linehaul driver gets plus 10-14 pickups. And me being the night driver deal with fatigue a lot because the pickups are during the day and my codriver is always waking me up... Afraid to back without a spotter. It's challenging mentally and physically. BUT I wouldnt dream of being solar powered. Night is my time to enjoy and unwind. The sun bathers can keep their days.

The reason I tag @TravR1 often is because he's a new driver and tells it like it really is. He's a valuable asset to this forum for potential new drivers.
