Been stuck on a few over the years, as is the norm for mines in my experience, so could well be!
That or we both see the light, and get more and more tired every day of folks with little to no experience spouting about stuff they know nothing about. Could be either or in my book.:biggrin_25519:
Either the older I get, my tolerance for BS gets lower, or there is plainly just more BS around these days than 20yrs ago. Not figured that one out yet.

And just to clarify, I am far from heavy haul these days. Up to @120k is all I can do anymore, which suits me just fine. Dont think my old Star can take too much more on 6 axles!

Agreed, my BSometer goes off the charts regularly.
I think it is today's society, I'm not that old, but as stupid as I was in the past, and I WAS stupid, I don't recall trying to slide a load of the stinky BS past the guys who had as much experience as I had been alive...
I have the good fortune of looking younger than I am, so I seem to get a lot of guys trying to dump their big stinky piles at my feet attempting to impression me, hence I've become rather intolerant of it.

Wow.... Interesting how this topic went into the mud literally. I didn't mention mud. I didn't mention narrow roads, and I didn't mention or begin to talk about the experience of anyone out there in order to insult anyone.

I appreciate the additional information regarding mud and narrow roads, but, regarding safety, I would not care to get a flat in a narrow road with either type of tire. Still should call for service and not limp to get somewhere unless it's the nearest shoulder.

With regards to having to wait for days to get a new SS tire, those days are in the past. I had a SS flat in 2008 when SS tires were hard to find and it took about 4-6 hours to get it delivered and replaced. I think this is about the normal time to get roadside to repair a standard tire.
Also, the situation depends clearly upon where you are. If you are up in the upper part of Montana where roadside repair is hard to find anyway, then good luck with either.

SS tires are pretty much all over the place. That being said, on to the next.

first things first. Yes I am new. New doesn't mean not eager to learn to do things safely and properly.
    2. I have seen many people state how you can move a load on doubles. If the trailer has weight beyond the single weight rating of the single tire, it's illegal. I see many folks who will roll down the road to get to the shop instead of pulling over to save money because they don't want to make a service call. (NOT SAFE PERIOD IN ANY EVENT)

I would error on the side of safety. To hell with rolling to the service center 60 miles away (I've been behind a guy who would not pull over because he was going to get to the shop to fix the tire instead of a service call Pieces of tire hitting cars passing him. What if the tire came off and hit a car or hit your truck as you were passing by. Not COOL).

    3. I didn't mention anything about fuel savings. That wasn't a thought. I was only trying to ask if it was applicable in this part of the industry.

    4. I think SS tires currently have (going back on fuel savings) gone towards that direction. No one has developed a SS tire that I've seen to get worse fuel mileage, but, offers significantly better traction on slick/wet/icy surfaces. I'm not saying that I don't believe you folks regarding duals, but, I think SS have their place in certain industries.

    5. Fuel savings. No comment regarding HH because there isn't ( a fuel savings SS tire for the industry to talk about)

    6. Regarding flats, Maybe I've not been on the road long enough, but, in 500K miles, I have had 3 flat tires. 2 trailers, (company trailers, flats shortly after hooking to them and 1 on the tractor. (Hit an asphaulted over spike in the company yard) Beyond that. I guess I've been luck. I try to maintain air pressure. I use a gauge and not a hammer or tire thumper. tire pressure can be off by 20lbs and a thumper won't let you know that.

    (sigh)

This happens all the time. I looked around at what everyone else was running. I looked at what the companies run. Did my research. I ask a question and listened. Pulled the trigger and bought the truck. She has the powertrain I want right down to the engine serial number. She has the transmission, clutch, and gears I want. She has the wheels I want.

When I pull into a truckstop, I always get some driver that comes up and asks about the business and the money. Try to help another driver out, but within 5 minutes, the freakin doorslammer thinks that he knows better than me, and he wants to argue. I dont argue. I just say, "Good luck with that", and attempt to walk away. Why should I argue? The idiot isnt satisfied, because he will follow me into the truckstop to continue the conversation. But its over. I walk into the restaurant, sit at the counter and allow a waitress to distract me. Doorslammer walks in to continue, and some other driver who wants to pull the bigger loads will take my place and argue with the doorslammer. "Thanks friend for running interference."

You didnt mention mud. You didnt mention narrow roads. Who did? The guys who have been where you want to be mentioned them. Why did they mention mud and narrow roads? Because if you plan to heavyhaul, youre going to see lots of mud and lots of narrow roads. DUH!!!!!!!!!! Have you noticed that after your securement thread, that Hammer is the only one that tries to help you? Nice fellow, that Hammer. But you didnt hear what you wanted to hear and so now you gave your lecture on the joys of running super singles.

Heard that supersingles argument before. Heard it about the tri drives. Heard it about securement a thousand times. Heard it about buying old Schneider and Swift trucks and trying to convert them to heavy haulers. Seen drivers do all of the above. Guess where WE see them dead and broke down waiting for a tow? In the mud and on those narrow roads. DUHHHHHHHHH! And there will be another that comes around after a 5 minute conversation that will think that his vast experience as a doorslammer qualifies him to rub elbows with us.

    "Good luck with that, driver."

Heavy hammer - If you don't mind, please tell me what tires in your experience have you used. What tires work to get you to the customer to be able to pick up the load in the places described. Now, seeing how I don't have experience in a dual environment situation (Not dual tire, but, both pavement and mud), what tire will not tear up on pavement and is still efficient in the mud? Thanks
