Exactly, sometimes I wonder how people fail to comprehend simple things like road signs, and titles of threads.

We use SS on heavy haul all the time but only on the steering axles.

The steer tires in a heavy haul truck are not called super singles, they are referred to as "floats."

"Floaties" are those little things you put on a child's arms.

    Counter correction.

Those things you put on childrens arms are called water wings..

    LOL..

I know the floats are not called Super Singles. I was trying to make a joke here since this is a Super Single section. Lol..

Just going off of King Qs statement. That's all. :biggrin_25525:

Sheesh, next you will be expecting "drivers" to park in actual parking spots, do the speed limit in a scale house, pick the seat up before they Pee all over it, realize the right lane IS where they belong, not hog the center lane in states that wont let us run in the left lane, take your bumper off when they pull in front of you after overtaking, wont try to overtake that 65MPH truck in their 66MPH truck, actually pull forward after fuelling, and so on......The cheek of it I tell ye

Thank you for all the info.
I was researching Super Singles, learned alot about them.
What I get from this thread is: SS are absolutely no good for Heavy Haul.

I am thankful to Richter for pointing out the State restriction only applies to HH.
Reading the thread it sounded like SS were absolutely banned from some states.

Hello to fellow Canadian Heavy Hammer! :biggrin_25525:

I don't like the idea of SS, but so many trucks for sale have new SS on them and to save money, I started considering buying with them on.
    Thanks again Guys!

It's nice to get schooled by a bunch of folks that have been doing this for some time and it's also nice to know the folks that have been doing it are not just telling you this, but, are explaining this from experience.

    Thanks guys. Really.

You will notice in the O/O section where some guy asks for help in choosing a truck. The doorslammers chime in, and they recommend always recommend a truck with Beancounter specs, and they brag about their fuel economy and whatnot. Then they decide to try and apply what they learn in door slamming and beancounting to heavyhaul. It doesn't work.

Had a rookie ask me about why I put 8 points securement on a 22000 lb blade. It's not heavy. He was pulling out of a parking lot when he heard his chains start snapping. There's so much torque applied to a truck frame, the trailer, and securement that it throws the usual rules out the window. I've never had wheels crack until I started doing this stuff. Yes, the laws are there, but the laws are the bare minimum standard in our neck of the woods. Your truck, tires and trailer is going to take a beating that the people that stay on the highways will NEVER see.

In the super single discussion, you will always have some doorslammer talk about getting put out of service is running duals and one goes flat. If you are a hundred miles from asphalt (and you will be if you are pulling big loads) and you get a flat, what do you do...limp out of there or wait for a tire guy? It happens. That $500 trailer tire will cost $2000.

i was running south on US 285 when I had my left rear outside tire blow. Took out mudflap, and totally flung off the carcass. I slowed down and limped the truck a hundred plus miles to Roswell. Even crossed the scale. The ScaleMaster knew I was up Poo Creek, and he knew I was trying to get to Roswell.
