I'm not certain about the Super 10's as they are super rare around here but if it has no neutral interlock on the split, preselecting it excessively early will cause premature wear the shift yoke and sliding clutch.

Great advice everyone thanks a lot. I will try to keep my button timing close to the shift and like you all said I just need to learn this truck as I go. You guys might laugh when I talk about grades as I drive locally in in out of Baltimore MD but shifting on some hills was hard for me at first but I think I'm picking it up maybe a few upset four wheelers behind me but I'm getting the hang of it.

My CDL instructor told me to never worry about the guy behind you...

1/2 of the splits are without going in neutral, so there isn't a neutral interlock.

Don’t worry about the guy behind you until you stall and the guy behinds you rear ends you. Yup.... your CDL instructor has it right.......”Not”.......

Carguy94 and Bean Jr. Thank this.

The guy that hits you from behind is at fault always. It's not your job to look behind you and watch someone you can't control. Well obviously you do have to watch your back but the guy behind you needs to watch his front. Stall a truck because you're green and can't shift or stopping for a baby in the road or slowing for construction doesn't matter, you rear end someone you are at fault

I'd think that the people that know best are the same people that designed and manufactured the transmission that we're discussing. And their instructions are to always preselect.
