Hi everybody.
At the company i work we have a spare old truck wich had a super 10 speed transmission that was grinding big time when up shifting (from 6th to 7th)
Few weeks ago they swap transmission they put in an 10 speed Eaton-fuller...wich is nice.
However truck used to run better with grinding super 10 than with a 10 speed.
I used it and it cant go past 55 mph..wich is super bad even when not loaded...
Truck is a International 9400 probably 1996 with detroit engine.
Do you think is there any adjustments we should do with that?
Super10 swap problems.

You didn't list which eaton 10 speed was installed. The list of variables are huge everything from gear ratio in final gear to unplugged speed sensor on transmission tail shaft. Yes there are two connections one for speedo one for ECM. Check eng light on? what is number on trans removed and installed. Does eng rev up but not seem to go anywhere? What kind of RPM does it turn at 55? Its hard to give accurate information without having all the details.

Just guessing, but it sounds like they either put in a direct 10 or one of the older ones with a short OD. No way to 'adjust' that, parts have to change.

@ wore out: Cant give that much info right not untill tuesday, thanks giving day on monday. However if i recall well it was reving pretty heavy at around 2000 and 2750 rpms. No check engine light, and from 1st to maybe 6th or 7th i runs ok vut to shift i have to rev up high. exactly like you said doesnt seem to go somewhere. they tried 2 transmissions but were removed bc something was wrong..untill they found this direct 10.
@ hammer166 yes its a direct 10 and yes it looked like old transmission..ill check that out on tuesday.
Thanks. -

The super 10 is a .73 overdrive if a direct was installed it will slow you down drastically. Like hammer said you can look into turning the back two around it usually runs around 1200.00.

Are you talking about replacing the rear axles both of them??
Again your comments are very instructive! -
Well, what happened is the direct is geared to low. High gear in the direct is 1.00, the same as 9th in the Super10. So either you'd have to change both rears, replacing what you have with a much lower numerical ratio, to have the overall gearing come out the same, or take the tranny apart and 'turn it around.'
Turning a transmission around is moving gearsets within the transmission to juggle ratios a bit, and ends up reversing the shift pattern in the right hand gate, so that high gear is up against the dash, but it does give you an overdrive top gear. This chart shows how the ratios change when you turn one around, notice it speeds up the entire transmission, and you effectively lose the bottom gear. (The RTX is an RTO with a normal shift pattern, with the gate switched back to normal within the shift rails, but the ratios are the same.)

Hope that clears it up a bit. -
They do make a top plate that will retain regular pattern when you turn the back 2 around. It would prob be easier and cheaper get am used unit that starts with RTX, or RTO. The X and O indicate overdrive just RT indicates direct. You said it revs up but doesn't seem to really go, is it cause you are tached out or does it feel like something is slipping or the rear is not recieving power?
