26th annual Shell Rotella SuperRigs competition under way at Iowa 80 Truckstop

WALCOTT, Iowa ' Hundreds of truckers and their families have descended on the largest travel center in the U.S. for the 26th annual Shell SuperRigs competition.

The event, which runs through Saturday at the Iowa 80 Truckstop, has also offered attendees a chance to "drive" the Shell No. 29 racing car in a simulator, hear performances each day by Joey Holiday, play trucker bingo, participate in a SuperRigs "Super Dog" contest and listen to other live entertainment.

Tonight's big event is the "Big Rig Lights" contest.

Saturday will include the SuperRigs Awards presentation, at which $25,000 in prizes will be awarded.

From the competitors, 12 trucks will be chosen to adorn the 2009 Shell Rotella SuperRigs calendar.

That would be neat as all gitout to attend the super rigs show. I have their calenders for going on 20 years. Awsome rigs.

Say, what's the over/under on seeing the token Freightshaker/Cornbinder/Mack?

I go with 2.

The other 10 months will be 379's (or 389's) and W900's

Of course there will be at least 10 Paccar's in the calendar because Paccars rule the the others drool.... HAHAHAHAHA

I was at Iowa 80 for a day and a half as the trucks were starting to roll in. I got some pretty good pics and talked to some pretty cool folks. I'll post pics as soon as I get the chance.

OOIDA member wins SuperRigs in first try

In a show truck competition known for veteran show truckers reinventing their rides to set a new gold standard in truck design and innovation, having a relative newcomer to show truck competitions win would come as a surprise to most.

Thats exactly what happened in the 26th Annual Shell Rotella SuperRigs, held June 5-7, at the Iowa 80 Truckstop in Walcott, IA.
With less than a handful of entrants left to show on Saturday, some may have thought the slate of winners full of the usual suspects was probably pretty close to being set in stone.

Thats until a 23-year-old trucker from Winnipeg, Manitoba, rolled in late Friday night, during the events light show, dripping wet from the truck wash. In the dark of night, not many knew this truck would turn the 2008 event on its ear.

Ryan Danylchuchs outlaw-style 2001 Peterbilt 379, painted deep plum with burnt orange metallic fenders certainly turned heads early Saturday morning, with only four hours of judging time left.
Ryan hasnt been competing for very long; his first competition was The Truck Show Las Vegas in 2007. He wasnt sure if he had done everything he needed to do to compete in a show of SuperRigs caliber.
