I can't seem to do an inline reply from my iPad, so I'll just do the best I can with a regular one...
Re the volume, it's the alert tone (the "ding") that sounds when you're right at the turn that I was referring to, not the speech - I think the speech volume is acceptable, but the alert tone is softer than the speech volume and I think it should be as loud or louder.
Re Trails, I get it now - it's not designed to work the way they do on other GPS units - thanks for the explanation.
Re the traffic updates, I had 2 occasions where there were major on traffic jams (one on I-81 near Harrisburg PA, and another on US 17 near Warrenton) that TND didn't know about it and Inrix did (I understand that Waze info is completely different). Both of them tied me up for more than 10 minutes in stop and go traffic, so they were fairly significant events.
Re the screen freezes/blankouts, I was in the GPS app when they occurred, not in a tablet screen.
Re the version, I've repeatedly checked for updates using the Launcher app, which seems to be the same as you directed me to do, but it constantly says "Everything is up to date". The build number in Launcher is 20150529. The About info in the GPS app is 1.0.19.3450 (4212), Usa001010731(130922) 15011005.
Re the "mosquito" buzz, my tablet does it all the time, whether charging or not. If you've never heard one do it, and no one else has reported it, perhaps my unit is defective which could also explain some of the other issues...
Thanks very much for your help.
Mark

Will be hard to troubleshoot the Traffic. All I can think of is the server.
Screen Blackouts/buzzing, might be hardware then...
You are on the latest version, but the corrections will be a different version that has not been released to the Tablet yet.
Thanks,
Markmc2 Thanks this. -
I'm guessing that when the new tablet version is released, we'll hear it here first, right?

Have a few questions and issues regarding my TND 730. I cant practically read through 220 pages of this thread, so I'm sorry if I'm redindant. Issues ate screen responding as if Im touching it, repeatedly and quickly, though I'm not, and occasional freezing. I believe I have done the latest updates.
Questions are actually suggestions: identify rail crossings, traffic lights (on roads with few of them). -
Freezing - Dock it and update. More code has been added to overcome the freezing, but RM has not released yet.
Rail crossings - POI-Factory has this, but understand that the data is gotten from other sites and may not be accurate as in live/unused crossings.
Traffic Lights - you would never see the screen if you entered a city.. Too many to add to the Map Database.
Thanks,
Mark -
Have a 510 that the on/off switch quit working. Will no longer turn off or on. Contacted rm service, they wanted $100 to fix the unit plus shipping. Is there a cheaper place to replace the switch?
Was planning to update to "forever maps", but cost of repair and update, can buy a new unit for just a bit more. Have been satisfied with unit. Did not use the unit for a year due to being off with breast cancer - now a male breast cancer survivor. Thanks, Mr Dave -
I would seriously think of upgrading, the 520 is about 3 times faster than the 510 and the 530 is about 4 times faster than the 520.
With the Map upgrade you still have to add about $10 for an external Micro SD Card to hold the maps.
http://store.randmcnally.com/intelliroute-tnd-520-lm-factory-refurbished.html + $10 = $159.99.
Thanks,
Mark -
guess I'm going shopping, can buy a new 530 on Amazon for $268. The cost for repair=$100 plus map up grade of $80= total cost $180 plus shipping. Thus for less than $80 I can have a new 530 with free shipping.
Thanks for re-enforcing what I was thinking. -
MarkMark Kling Thanks this.
