TND-740 - I just got my to "play" with last Wednesday. I just got home today from MATS, so give me a few days to look at the features and how everything works.

BTW... if on Thursday you were listening to the Sirius/XM Freewheeling show being broadcasted live from MATS around 11-1130 with Meredith/Chris T, if you heard a little girl on the air for about 4 minutes that was my daughter....

    Thanks,
    Mark

So no more map updates for the 720?

Since these units were sold under the promise of lifetime updates does that not lend itself to a bit of false advertising.
One can infer that it was for the lifetime of the unit but my unit still works fine.

I am considering the 740 but i wonder now how long will Rand McNally support it with map updates.

I like the product and have become used to it but a promise is only as good as the one making the promise.

Not trying to be a jerk but am a bit concerned is all.

The manufacture determines the "life" of the unit in regards to updates. It is not your life or if your unit works fine or not. It is strictly what the manufacture determines on the unit and the ability of the unit to run the new software.

This is an industry standard. A manufacture determines the cost of the unit over a x amount of time and the ability to support the said device. IF the hardware is "aged" enough that it will not support the current software due to improvements in the software then it may have reached the end of its "lifetime".

Again, any issues with this, direct them to RM CS. Let's not turn the Support Thread into a bashing contest over this.

    Thanks,
    Mark

What about the TND-730, is there a full map update coming for it.
    Thanks

Yes... should be released soon as it was released to me for MATS.

    Thanks,

I understand your desire to eliminate complaints on a public forum and that this is a support thread for rand McNally. .
However, this is a support issue and not a bashing .

Before trucking i was the manager of an auto parts remanufacturing facility. We gave lifetime warranties on our products that stipulated the warranty was for as long as the original purchaser owned the vehicle.. and lifetime meant lifetime..
If you mean something less then say what you mean. I always told customers that a warranty is only as good as the company providing it.
    The same applies here...

Say what you mean and stand by what you say or your word is worthless.

I must say i am disappointed by this and it will greatly affect my decision going forward as i am getting ready to make an upgrade to a newer unit with more features.

I am not ruling out the new 740 but i will be approaching it with some scepticism.

This is a business decision by Rand and not a support issue. If you feel this needs to be addressed then please call RM CS and express your thoughts to them. I am not here to discuss business decisions made in the food chain way above me.

I am in no way asked about what the business decision should be. You can voice your comments, but I am here to provide support, not discuss the how or why of a business decision.

I am just passing along what was mentioned to me.

    Thanks,
    Mark

TNDT Tablet. If you updated to the new maps and suddenly cannot route through Indiana please let me know. It is not an issue with your unit, but simply a bad DCA map file that you downloaded.

    Thanks,
    Mark

    Thanks Mark...
You have been helpful in the past and i hope Rand McNally appreciates all you do for them.

As i said i am still considering the 740 once i learn more about it.

Really am wanting to hear how much data it will use in a complete 11 driving period while tethered to my phone in order to use weather and traffic.

I am not putting you off, but expressing your thoughts here about a business decision that is beyond my control would just lead to back and forth posts. Call RM CS where they keep tracking of customer issues at a higher level.

I will post info in a few days on the 740.

    Thanks,
    Mark
