Mark,
Sorry to bother you with this but I am trying to get some clarification on the 740 model and how jt would work with traffic, as was touched upon in posts 3807, 3808.
I can tether my phone and it will be able to use that to reroute me according to traffic conditions but I would need to do if manally and it would not show how light/heavy traffic is on the screen?
Sorry to bring up something that was already discussed but sadly I am very technologically challanged. -
Thanks,
MarkSuspect Zero Thanks this. -

Ok then.... I will be getting one here in a couple of weeks....
I must say Mark that one of the reasons I decided to stick with Rand McNally is your support.
Tell them you deserve a raise... Use my name if you need to... That ought to be worth at least another .25 cents an hour...classic_150 and Suspect Zero Thank this. -
On the Traffic Part - I have some questions that you might be able to help. i threw this at Customer support when i had them on the phone and they couldn't answer.
I found there are 2 Traffic settings on the 740. Both require you to be connected to WiFi of some sort. I use the Hotspot off my tablet and it doesn't seem to use much, but i only use traffic, no weather or fuel.
One is located within settings and that simple turns on and off live Traffic. this is the main one you want on so you get the traffic in the first place.
the second one is on your screed, the little icon on the right about midway that says Live (i think) that will turn on a visual display on your map of traffic, Green, Yellow and red coloring roads.
The traffic only seems to look about 30 miles ahead of you and unlike the 730 i can't seem to change this setting anywhere. On my 730 i had it set for 60 miles ahead of me.
Now this is where i had issues.
Last Friday, Holiday weekend, I had traffic on so hopefully i could avoid some of it. my map was showing everything Green ahead of me, meanwhile i was sitting in a parking lot on I476 in PA. So obviously the Live Traffic was NOT doing a very good job of giving me a heads up, in fact it completely failed on that regard.
the second issue i can't figure out, is on my 730 I could go in and request an alt route and it would give me one, it might not be any better that the one i am on, or it might even be worse, but it would give me one. Now on my 740 i can't even figure out how to do that. Where or how do i request an alt route?
Also it was my understanding, like the 730 but even better, that 740 with Live traffic would either automatically reroute me or at least would pop up something giving me a warning/notice that there a better route available due to traffic. Nothing like that has happened yet.
So bottom line, so far, i am very UNHAPPY with the live traffic features on the 740.
How do i make this work better or is there nothing i can do, in which case i'm just going to go back to using Google for traffic.tow614 Thanks this.
