Highway 24 in Indiana/Ohio is still not updated so it still routes you around it. There hasn't been a disjoint at Fahlsing Road for 2 years now...

And it still doesn't route you on TX-130! It seems to be there in the map, but it must be weighted as slower than i35 despite the 80+ mph speed limit & no stops... i35 from Georgetown, TX to Devine, TX ought to be weighted as a 45mph highway

Yup and now we know what the business decision was for delaying the new map set, wait till after Xmas so they can try and move as many of the new units as possible. What a croc.

No and please don't start more rumors. Testing had to be done on running the new maps on the 520/720 for backwards compatibility of versions running internal an external maps.

The update for Jan is only one file that is about 1gb. Once you have that file the version will be updated since the new file requires a more current version.

    Thanks,
    mark

As I see it RM cheaped out when making the previous units by not putting enough internal storage on them for future updates. When I had the 700 and new maps came out I had to use an external sd card, you would think that this would have been a clue to put more storage on the units at that time. With storage memory being as cheap as it is this is not acceptable.
I personally would be willing to delete some of the programs on the unit that I don't use anyways to clear up memory as all I want is a properly functioning gps unit and not a half baked EOBR.
As stated before there are too many bells and whistles and maybe we should be given the option of what programs we want and being able to delete the ones we don't want so as to minimise the bloat.
Some of the recording is wonky anyways as it told me that I went 109 mph at some time when my truck is governed at 68 mph, totally ridiculous.
Mark, without your help and input, I believe that RM would go down for the count.

The memory thing is kinda a catch 22. They don't know how big the maps are gonna get in the future. So how big do you make the memory? 4gb? 10gb? 50gb? When is enough enough?
If you think of computers you could say the same thing. I bought my computer with a 8gb hdd. Almost immediately I had to upgrade it to hold all the stuff I wanted to put on it like games, music, videos, pictures etc. why didn't they just put a 100gb hdd in it so I didn't have to upgrade right Way? Cost. I also had to upgrade the ram right away. Yet another thing they could of put in so I didn't have to.
It boils down to cost. Keep cost down so they can sell the units at a reasonable price. For everything they have to put into the unit your gonna pay for on the back end. They build the units for what they have currently because they can't see the future and know the maps are gonna get huge.
You can't expect a 3 or 4 year old unit to hold all the info and road updates and new features that have been added since that unit was built. It was built for what was current.

Missing this DC even with the latest walmart POI file I got today. Right behind the CR england yard.

Might want to make note that you will be turned away from the gate if you turn in from Aguamanasa. They want you to go south on Riverside past Aguamanasa, then turn left @ the next light which is Kleine Ranch/Miguel Bustamante & go up the hill to the truck entrance at the end of street by Aguamanasa.

Sign says lineage logistics, but it is in fact a full fledged Walmart DC.

Sorry guys..i usually support your efforts but this is a lame excuse...i would have to liken your forsight to the designers of obamacare on this one....

if you are designing your units to last 3 or 4 years then this should be clearly stated and not advertise lifetime updates.. i have only received 1 map update since buying the 720...

as far as memory goes the whole elog thing on the 720 was a joke from the start...poor planning..

When a piece of electronic equipment is on the drawing board they have to find a design that will work. To set up the molds and run the line costs money. At the same time they look what is current for hardware on the market at the time. To start to change what is on the hardware takes engineering. To have the board manufacture go back and change what is above what is on the market costs money. Boxing and material costs money. In the end like Mattbr mentioned it is trying to keep the cost factor down so the end product can be priced in a competitive manner.

If everyone had a crystal ball that looked into the future then anybody could be ahead of themselves.

The new file was not in place when the 530/730's came out. The memory that came on the motherboard was the standard at the time of manufacturing.

The new file was written to create all new Junction Views.

All the modules are written into the code and not possible to tailor make each unit to a customers needs. RM does not add a feature based upon one suggestion. IT takes research and a need for it to be put in.

I have an S4, I don't use 60% of what it can do, so I just don't use the apps. The same for the TND. You don't use the fuel logs, then don't use them. They are there if need be.

A lot of progress has been made in the new code since the OS is different on the x30's than the x20's and x10's. This has lead to a lot of issues being resolved. And yes the code is backwards compatible.

Nothing is "cheaped" out. Any company selling any product has to make a product with a end cost factor in mind and then fulfill the hardware and software to meet within those guidelines. Unlike construction, cost overruns are not acceptable.

The new maps will still run on the x10's/x20's models but will be retained on version 2922. RM cannot push the new version to the x10's/x20's till the new file is pushed to the units.

We are only talking about a Micro SD Card the cost of a meal at MCD. Other GPS manufactures require the same. They also require a addition of the user buying an external Micro SD Card.

If you itemize, don't forget to add the Micro SD Card to your taxes as business related.

    Thanks,
    Mark
