Mine says same thing Serial # 720-073499 and yes LTM. So was last weeks update of 40 megs the actual map update? Even at that time it did not show a button for map update just update available.

    Map updates are generally gigabytes.

    Hello Mark,
Just wanted to tell you how pleased I am with my new 730. What a difference from my 710, no charging issues and it's so much faster as you said. I do have one question. I'm doing a multi stop trip, and want to look at the routing for the second stop. When I run the trip, I can look at the first leg directions, but cannot get past the end of this leg. I remember reading somewhere on the forum how to do this, but have searched and cannot find it now. Thank you for all your help.People should appreciate all the effort you make to provide product support, and stop beating you up over items that are beyond your control. Thanks again!

The whole Navi Maps file is only around 300 megs so 40 megs could have been the update although a small one. Anyways I'm sure Mark will inform us at some point in time.

I'm not sure when the last time you updated your garmin nuvi maps, but the most recent version for both mine and my girlfriends personal vehicle is 4.8 gigs for NA(canada, us, mexico).

I can assure you, 40megs was not a map update :p

According to Mark, in a previous post, the tnd 720 has only 4 gigs of storage, the whole navi folder takes up a little over 3 gigs, according to my pc there is only room for 178 megs on the unit at this time so probably some file compression happening here so it's quite feasible that the maps alone only take up 300 megs.
The rest of the room is taken up by all the other programs on the unit. You do the math.

Navimaps is the folder on the 720, at yes, just over 3gigs......My assumption is these are the maps, which means the map size for the 720 currently is 3gigs......Compression only get you so far here, and generally they are compressed before you download.....For instance, with the garmin nuvi's, it extracts all the files after you run the downloaded file(uncompresses), then transfers, so the 4.8gig download, is a compressed download.

My assumption is it would be the same with rand mcnally. Compression is great, but it only gets you so far.

The Navi folder contains everything, maps is just part of it. As I said the whole unit has only 178 megs of free space hence the need for sd card.

I'm confused, I understand the need for a SD card, older GPS's by other manufacturers required the same as their internal memory got maxed out as maps got larger and larger.

The navi folder is a different folder from "navimaps" which is the actual map folder. The navi folder just has tips, address book, profile, etc, small junk.

I am thoroughly confused about how you still think the 40megs would be a map update, but keep changing the subject? Or perhaps I am misunderstanding some of your posts.
