    Hey Guys, just came upon this thread while searching to see if and when RM is going to update the maps. I have the TND520 and on power up I get the "old map database" message.
    Tried to call RM support but was on hold for 28 minutes and just gave up.
    Maybe someone on here knows?
    Thanks

    You can talk to the Port Authority for the GWB, since they have set the rating for Non-Staa (48' 96"). Sorry, RM has no control over the GWB nor any other state/local DOT's regulations as they deem to set the standards for. And before RM gets blamed for NYC also, they only have certain routes 53's are allowed.

    "as is the poorly designed HOS deal that we had to go through hoops to shut down" - Hours of service (HOS) has nothing to do with the icon for weather/traffic/fuel.

    You can see the whole route on the unit once you get the latest maps and software to go with it. - not released yet.

    "you sort of listen to feed back. Not sure if you guys are actually doing anything with it though." Not sure if this was directed to me or RM, but both RM and myself listen to feedback. You have to remember that the TND is build for the overall population of drivers, not a select few.

    Not everyone will use every feature, some will use feature x, y, z and others will use a, b, c.

    Thanks,
    Mark

    on my first search I found from the Port Authority's site that they allow 14' high and 8'6" (102) wide. I bet if I look a little harder I will find the 53' STAA route for the upper level as well. ......and sure enough from their rules and regs, up to 70' is legal in combination on the bridges (without a permit).

    my guess is the programmers aren't talented enough to program all this so easier to blame the port authority.

    I didn't say one had to do with the other. I said they both are useless. One completely and one mostly.

    Super on seeing the whole route. Only been waiting like a year. Looking forward to it.

    I agree that not everyone will use everything. That's why we should be able to dummy down the display to what we prefer.

    No point in replying again Mark.
    Thanks,

    My error on GWB... the Maps only show one level, 53's are permitted, but 53's are restricted in NYC.. I was thinking of something else at the time.. What RM did research.

    [h=2]My device will not route me over the George Washington Bridge.[/h]Categories: Truck GPS | Routing

    We always want to give drivers the most accurate routing information, so we went straight to the source and contacted the New York City Department of Transportation. They had some pretty interesting information. Trucks with 53-foot trailers carrying divisible loads (goods that can be broken down into smaller loads, like fruit) are actually prohibited in New York City. 53-foot trailers carrying non-divisible loads (goods that can’t be broken down, like a statue) can only drive in New York City with a permit. Trucks that violate these codes risk a hefty ticket.
    After contacting the NYC DOT, we decided to dig a little deeper and the situation got even trickier. While the NYC DOT is in charge of New York City, The New York and New Jersey Port Authority is the government entity in charge of the George Washington Bridge, and they haven’t set any restriction for 53-foot trailers on the bridge. So technically, you can drive on the GWB with a 53-foot trailer, but as soon as you cross it, you’re subject to the New York City trailer restriction.
    In short, driving across the George Washington Bridge into New York City is a no-go for most truck drivers, which is why we have our devices route around it.
    If your trailer is smaller than 53 feet or you have an oversize truck permit, you can change your device settings to a 48-foot trailer and then you’ll be able to be routed over the George Washington Bridge.

    Thanks,
    Mark

    Mark please feel free to pull your foot out of your mouth.

    https://www.dot.ny.gov/divisions/op...sitory/2014 04 trk access pg5 rev 06 2014.pdf

    I95 thru NYC IS a STAA route as is I87, I295. Cross Bronx ect. I guess I could find and post the 1990 Omnibus Truck Safety Bill too.

    There really is no excuse why your software won't route 53' trailers over the GWB other than unskilled programers or some one doesn't know how to read regulations over there. But that's not what annoys me the most. You post like you know what you are talking about and get likes from the clueless. I'm getting a Garmin.

    Thanks,

    Dude, if you couldn't tell, he is obviously posting information from a FAQ, and my guess would be, he didn't write it. He is just supplying you with the information that's provided to him.

    I don't see the need to get so upset, you could have just corrected him and let him send it up to the guys that do the maps.

    Btw there is no programming involved in what you want. It's just a simple setting on a road in a file. Probably similar to '
    48'=yes
    53'=no
    '

    Geez....all the attitude...

    who cares about NYC anyway...as far as i am concerned i would prefer a gps that refused to allow me to go there because that is exactly what i intend to do...
