I have pretty much figured out to tell them to Drive their leased trucks up their patootie, I had that in mind before i ever applied.
You pretty much have to go FULL STUPID if you want to lease/purchase a truck without knowing the industry first and if i ever buy a truck it will be cash in hand not through company financing.
That said, I am going for a refresher, and i understand i will have to pay them for the refresher, I understand i will have to drive teams, i do not have problem with this as long as they stick me with at least a semi experienced driver.
( I myself have 12 years driving a 50,000 lb fire engine before i went to CDL school) I drove for 1 month with Transport America(With them it seemed like from Day 1 they were acting like they didn't really want drivers and were trying to make you quit or find a way to get rid of you for no reason of your doing.)
So after an extended unemployment i am stuck with taking a refresher, fine , even having to pay for it is fine , after all i'd have to take one and pay for it anywhere else too.
BUT.....what concerns me is this sitting around for weeks waiting for a truck to team up with!!! That ain't happening and if it does they can still pick me up.....Back in Clearfield, Pennsylvania at Sapp Brothers truck stop!! I ain't spending it in a flop house in B.F'd Indiana!!
So the leasee's make no money but do the company drivers do alright?
Like i said , i will tell them where to stick their unsigned lease agreement they place on the table in front of me, I ain't stupid, have done the college thing, have several t-shirts, wasn't born yesterday or last night. So i am not concerned about leasing as i will tell them "Not an option! I'll drive your freight but it will be in YOUR truck, not YOUR truck AT MY EXPENSE!"
Will i have problems if i refuse to take a lease?
I mean i see a lot of complaints but mostly from people who got ripped off trying to get their own trucks the hard way. (The easy way is to company drive, learn the ins and outs of the industry and save your pennies to buy a truck outright brand spank me new, then manage it like a business and set aside an expense account etc. The guys leasing are trying to do it aal for instant gratification, real life doesn't work that way!)
There were other reasons i left "Transport America" Like "You will never unhook your trailer, ever, unless you have lighted fenced in place to park the truck , it doesn't go home!", If you scrape a curb accidently , it is an accident on your DAC!", IF your hauling a load for best buy "You do not stop period until you are at the "BEST BUY" you are dleiverign to, not even to eat or pee!"(On this one i was incredulous, you could always tell the "BEST BUY" loads, Nothing says "Break into my trailer theres stuff worth stealing!!" more than hanging more locks than a stae prison on the back doors!) Then the Driving test at Orientation, the driving test at the end of your training, then a new driving test every six months after that forever!!!
Me and my trainer were routed several hundred miles out of our way to go to our terminal so he could have his semi annual "Check ride!" with the safety people, at this point i'm thinking "Hmm, you'd think them not getting any evidence of tickets or accidents would tell them more about whther a driver is safe or not than calling them in every six months for a joy ride with safety!
Supposed to arrive April 19th for refresher training at CRE.

I can't get any broker!!! Even $50 a week is $50 bucks improvement over what i have now, like i said i won't sign a lease for a truck, i am not that stupid, i fugre they get me the refresher, get my 6 months i need for a lot of companies and get gone from them.
And so far after 15 months of unemployment they are the only ones offerigna lifeline to get back in the saddle.
Then again i could always save my pennies from what pay i do get and pay them off early and go with a company that only wants three months, I already have one month in with TRANSPORT AMERICA. -
my thoughts are this....it's the only company so you say that's going to give you a chance and your not going to give them a chance?
btw what happened at transport America ?? -

please read my posts on a couple of the other CRE threads.
Suffer the pain at CRE / CRST / Transport America (I actually reported one of their drivers what a turkey! Couldn't drive a skateboard) then bugger off somewhere else pronto. -
1. CRE is NOT "LEASE ONLY", i am training to be a company driver and they know that and i have seen brand spank me new Company trucks at tyhe terminals.
I am 3/4 of the way through the training and will be taking home (after taxes etc. $950 bucks next week as a Phase 2 TRAINEE!!!!! ME and my phase 2 are running our wheels off with one coast to coast turn around after another!!
I do not see CRE treating me any worse than any other trucking company treats people, outside of the "Lease zombies", the folks at the terminals that walk around in a daze with their arms outstretched chanting lease in a low moaning voice!!! Then i say "Company only" and they seem to snap out of it and dissapear back to their offices and cubby holes.
Transport america, well lets just say they stuck me the prize winner in the industry for trainers that are fine individuals, only this fine individual decided to sexually harrass the fuel desk lady at the terminal, since i was the only witness the trainer decided he would tell me to my face i was driving great, then secretly phone or text the the safety managers that i sucked and needed to be "terminated from training". Well i get to the terminal that weekend and the Safety dude calls me into the office, and proceeds to tell me what kind of reviews he's gettign on me and i'm shock, I never endangere3d a truck or cargo, followed all proceedures they wanted while on the road and the guy actually asked me "You look like you have no idea what i'm talking about?" I replied "i don't **** is telling me i drive great while were in the truck!!!"
Well, to make a long story short the safety dude tells me he has to consider what the trainer is telling him over my version.(Did i mention that **** invites ALL the company management incluing the company owners to hunt his property every fall?)
So i am left in a pickle, what do i do wait for **** to succeed in gettgin me terminated which would pollute my DAC or quit in self defense? So another trainer, one with some integrity told me it would be better to quit and talk to Schneider or someone. But by then the recession of 2008 was swingin like a war axe and nobody was hiring anybody without years of experience.
Out of 120 people who came in the week i did at CRE only 5 of us are left, but England gave me a second chance, so i will give tham a chance.......I JUST AIN'T LEASING NOTHING!! -

First ... on CRE having "tricks". You give them too much credit. "Tricks" implies planning and forethought, CRE has neither. The system is simply stacked for leasing. Company driver jobs, wait for the opportunity to be available ... when and where that will happen, nobody knows, nobody cares. But if you want to lease, go down the hall, there's probably a truck ... but again nobody knows, nobody cares.
Company jobs are available. Hell, I was offered a solo company with them last week. Turned it down. No matter what, when you deal with SLC nobody knows, nobody cares.
Second $950 for a week at $.13 ... easy, 7500 miles and a few hours detention pay would do it. Now it's probably not going to be take home, though. I suspect the young man is underestimating the tax hit, when his income bumps up.
