The GPS I'm using is for cars and I've been using it for over 3 years now. So about 2 months ago I decided to get one that's for trucks instead. And I'm still looking for the right one. I thought the McNally one was going to be the one I get, until I started reading all the post here. For $500 I want it to work right every time. If I want a GPS that acts up or don't know the truck routes, get lost, lags to much then I may as well keep the one I have and save my money.

From what I read here it reminds me of Microsoft. Put the product out as fast as you can, charge as much as you can, and fix it as you go. Well I don't like that idea at all.

Hey Mark or anyone else, I've owned the 700 for around 4 months. Yesterday, my charger started acting funny. The red light on the front side of the unit started blinking red. Sometimes the red light will stay on after the green fully charged light wears off. If I wiggle the charging cable around the entry port area of the unit, it will stay connected. If I hit a bump in the road, it will flicker and go out.

More concerning is this: The entire unit has started to freeze and sometimes completely shut off if that red charging light starts to flicker too much. It's as though a good connection is not being made between the 700 and the charging cable in the truck. I've inspected the inside of the charging connector. None of the pins appear to be bent or broken. What should I do? Can I purchase any car charger with the same type of port that would fit the 700? I've noticed some cell phone chargers will fit the 700.

I visited the Rand McNally website. All is see are chargers for the 500. Not the 700. I kinda need a quick fix. Any suggestions guys? I just hope I'm not having problems with the unit itself. Such as the charging port inside the unit. Can't understand why this is happening. Thanks. :biggrin_25510:

Beerunner, I can tell you this without a doubt that Rand & Dieselboss have the best customer service I've seen anywhere. I can tell you that when the Rand IT support people couldn't resolve my issues with the 500, Dieselboss refunded my money. I almost kept it anyway because it does so many things that make an independants life easier. It is a valuable tool in alot of ways even though it has some "navigation" issues. They are correcting those problems but couldn't fix the version that I had.
I would recomend Dieselboss at any rate. I would ask for the absolute latest version though. Good luck!

BTW, KC Live,,,I know that the charge cord/plug from my garmin gps worked fine when pluged into the TND-500 I had. Check what the voltage output is on the 700's charger, and compare it to that cellphone chargers output. If they are the same then there shouldn't be an issue. Call Rand's customer support and ask them.

It can be the little socket on the side of the unit or the cord itself. It would be less painful if it is the cord. If you have an inverter in your truck then plug the AC cord into that and see if the symptooms go away. Also, I am not sure if Rand is open this week, but they should be able to send you a new DC cord. Call 877-446-4863.

Also, I know that Mark will take care of you "outside of the box" if need be when he checks in here.

Hey Boss. thanks for the info. If you're the guy that I think you are, I personally bought this unit from you after having a conversation on the phone. You put my mind at ease with the 700. Thanks again.

But yes, I did plug into inverter. I also brought inside and plugged into computer and wall outlet. No problems at all. I'm 99.9% sure it's the truck charger now. I called Rand McNally. They want the receipt, but I cant find it now.....that figures. Boss, are you able to email a copy of said receipt? If not, no worries. I cant remember if DiselBoss emails a confirmation or not. I cant even find that in my email account.

Very satisfied with the 700. Just this small hiccup and thats it.

How long is the warranty for a 700 I bought my 700 in September and now I have the same problem with a loose USB port. The charging will turn on and off. I think it became loose from me having to unplug it everyday. I really do not want to leave my gps in the truck. Where do I send it to get fixed in a hurry.

As long as you bought it from an authorized dealer then it is under warranty for one year - so you're covered. Call Rand for replacement (Mon thru Fri) at 877-446-4863.
