i just bought this RM. supposed to be the newest 500 device. i like what it does. but i don't see how it helps any. it has absolutely no setting for type of load you are carrying.

how's it going to help me if i'm carrying a haz or overweight/sized load?

it's nice that it can take you into town and not go down streets built for cars. and has warning for dot and what not. but out in the open road. my sprint navigation works better for actual routing.

i'm going to try this copilot for my android phone. $150. it has those settings for types of loads. and offers more information. i sure hope i didn't spend $350 for something that may or may not get used.

All models of the TND will display next exit/next cross road. The display for that is at the bottem of the map page. It's the same dispaly that shows City/County/State and current road. Tapping on that will cycle through the three display options. This is regardless of the "mode" the unit is in ie, routed or follow-me. In route mode, the navigation data is displayed on top of the map page with the next turn to the upper left ( as one is looking at the screen). So it doens't interfer with the data you want to see and which I just described.

For the other question regarding speed, check out the DieselBoss' website-He's got a great comparison chart with the top brands on it. That chart includes the calculation speed.

This goes way back to the 500/700 units. It's like the thing is biased to certian routes regardless of the user parameters. Strange. It's got to be an insignificent line of code buried somewhere that's not being caught. And if so, that's the kind of thing that's way over my pay grade.

You can define a load by hazmat type, truck length, height, and weight and other parameters. The manual will lead you to the right menu.

I was at Houston, got home for 2 days and had to head to Skokie for a couple of days... Was assisting Rand in a new project.

I will be at the Pilot in Kannapolis, NC from (may 11) 11am-7pm and Mebane, NC (May 12) from 7a-2p for the Moving America tour. Bring your TND to get it updated or if you have an issue stop by and let's chat.

As always if I seem to disappear for a few days and you have an issue that you need addressed feel free to E-Mail me.

    Thanks,
    Mark

The 510/710 comes with the latest map update. All other models are on earlier maps and the soon to be released update will be for those models.

I still do not have a firm date for the map update release yet.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Try setting your trailer from 53' to 48'. You may be hitting non-STAA roads. As far as the ramps, I send the one you posted up to Rand. This sounds like a issue with the ramp settings in the map database.

I am sorry if it seems like you hit all the oddball issues in routing. The map database is very complicated in how the data is shown in the road segments. Every issue you find just post it here if you have the time.

Rand does research each and every road issue.

    Thanks,
    Mark

You can tap on the number like the 11 for driving hours, then tap the # sign to readjust to what you want. This can be done for all settings on the timers and logs tab.

    Thanks,
    Mark

The location for business being on the wrong side, if you report we send back to Navteq to verify. The POI Rand will research and verify.

Speed limits are set in the map database. You having the 510 have the latest map database. Rand is looking at different ways to correct the map database without a huge download.

    Thanks,
    Mark
