I can not believe just how "HOT" The TND 700 has been these last few weeks. I mean, no mater where I go, weather it be on-line or going to a truck stop, these things are "SOLD-OUT"!! What in the world is going on? I have never seen any product like this being sold out so quickly especially with it being an item geared toward a specific group of people (ie. The Truck Driver) Now I haven't crawled into the truck yet (still a student until the end of the week) but I'm hoping that when I do get into the truck, I will be able to pair the 700 up with the Qualcom & my CMV Road Atlas, in hopes that with the 3 items at my disposal, I will be able to make informatable decisions on as to whixh routes to take. However, I am beginning to have my doubts with the 700 mainly due to all of the odd ball things I've been reading about on here. Oh well, Hopefully I'll have a good experiance with it as I did end up having to "PRE-Order" mine using Amazon.com. Got it for $499.00 & free shipping, (When they get them in)I did see one individual on Ebay a few hrs ago that had 2 of them & this joker was wanting $1000.00 for them. Must have been smoking crack cuz there aint no way I'd pay that much for this thing.

I like my 500 better than the 700.
The 7 inch screen is just too darn big. No way I could drive nights with that on the windshild. So I would have to put it down on the dash somewhere.
Since I like my GPS on the windshield just over the dash I will stick with the smaller unit.

Hi THD. I'm a fairly new company driver as well. Does the TND 700 have issues? Yes. But Mark here is more than receptive in taking/answering questions. The TND 700 has yet to get a route without errors, BUT!!!!! If you check your route to a map then the GPS, you can see where the errors are and how to avoid them. Mostly I find the GPS wants me take exits and double back for some reason.

But I love the GPS as it is and I know it will only get better with updates.

Not a support question I know, but the TND 700 GPS is a great tool for planning on route and prior.

    Hey Mark
I'm not to far from you (hwy 321 N just across the Catawba river bridge).
As soon as I get my 700 (its on back order) and I find that I have difficulties updating, I'll be sure & try & contact you. If you want, drop me a PM & we can exchange info.

    Thanks

Are you forwarding those exits\double backs up to Rand?

As I mentioned before, I feel this new mapping database will resolve a lot of these types of issues. Rand does check each and everyone of your Tell Rands. Now as to if you get a reply or not I cannot say. But, if you post it here I will get a reply back from the mapping dept and will post the reply here.

So far, the last weeks worth of issues on mapping are showing all corrected on the new mapping database.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Rand is working hard to get the orders caught up. I am not involved on that part of the company so I do not know the details of when they will be shipped.

    Thanks,
    Mark

I totally agree with you on (for now) to use it "ONLY" as a cross check tool. Now I do not know as to "who" RM uses to obtain it's maps, but if they are relying on NAVTEC, then most definately do not rely on accurate info, as I have seen first hand on how they get their info and wouldn't trust it as far as I could throw them.

Most Auto dealers (Honda, GM, Toyota, etc) uses NAVI in their onboard mapping equipment and more times than I can count, the consumer will attempt to take their new cars & trucks back to the dealership with the various complaints about incorrect info that their NAVI systems are comming up with.

Now, lets say (as a trucker) if you have a Qualcom in your truck & you have the CMV road atlas and say, the TND 700, (or any other GPS) I feel the smart thing to do would to first get your preliminary trip off the Qualcom. Then, take out the Atlas, compare notes and delete veraious segments (ie, get off exit 123 and then back on exit 124 etc "or what I call puddle jumps") and then use the GPS to stream line your total trip. This way, one would not have to constantly take their eyes off the road to make various checks. One could then just glance at the GPS to make sure that they were still on track.

Another thing that I thnk that RM "Should DO" is to pick out a couple different large trucking companies and offer to lease & install their equipment in those trucks. Track those Units via satellite & Then have the driver of those trucks add notes as to what they find and then implament that info into their next updates. What better way to gather intel than to have the customer provide the info as "they" are the ones "actually" driving those roads.

The Beta testers are all truck drivers. With about 50% O/O. I get daily lots of phone calls and E-Mails in regards to issues or mapping issues. 49 states and Canada is covered.

Yes Rand does use NavTeq. Their are only two major mapping companies to get the information from. Rand can change the info as they need to correct it in their mapping database, but this information will only show up when new mapping databases are released.

    thanks,
    mark

Thank you for a quick response.:biggrin_25514: I can't wait for the update.
Another problem. It was mentioned here a few times. Delays.
Last friday I was driving from Montgomery, AL to Arcadia, FL. Shortly after I got on I-10 around Marianna, FL, the thing went bonkers. I was driving 67mph and it was showing 53mph. I figured that's the delay because I was driving uphill a minute ago...
I tried to turn it off and on but it didn't help at all. Then I quickly set up a new route and that did it.
I'm wondering if the delay problem has something to do woth the time zone changing which happens to be curiously just around Marianna.
I didn't experience the problem before or after. I'm still in Fl but I'll be on my way west monday so I wonder if I can confirm that time zone theory.

The unit did some questionable decisions regarding routing but I guess that's a feature not a bug.
So far the adresses and truck stop locations are very precise.

Just to answer people with problems connecting it to a computer.
    I run windows 7 x64 and I didn't experience any problems whatsoever. I've got MSI GT725 laptop.
