RoadRunner, did you get the name of the Rep that you first spoke too? Rand has not had any free map promo's till last November. I am sorry if you were mislead.
Rand does not sell directly to the public except for Refurb's.
The reason that Tech support may Google it and I do the same is to verify the road or issue that the driver sees and the TND does not, does it exist. Sometimes they may Google it to find an intersection. Many reasons. Google is just a cross verification.
True customers return TND's, but it could be for a hardware issue. I have also seen drivers use the TND for a run or two and then return it. They just wanted to "sample" the product.
E-Mail me your name and the serial number off the back of your TND. I will check with Rand Support and see why you have not been responded too.
How many times have you tried to contact Rand? Forward one or a few of your E-Mails that you have send.
Again. No free map upgrades for the life of the TND were offered before Nov 2011.
Thanks,
Mark

Incorrect or outdated maps is not restricted to this maker. It is a general problem. It is so bad in the UK that they are arranging a government summit in March to tackle it:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-16434183
""It is vital highway authorities, mapping companies and sat-nav manufacturers work more closely together to provide drivers with accurate, up-to-date information on traffic restrictions such as narrow roads or low bridges."
The whole industry uses its customers as unpaid product testers. Makers have no concept of proper product development, quality control and customer service.
North American governments should also step in and mandate some improvements, with suitable punishments for the laggards.Countyboy Thanks this. -
That's one thing I've never understood, since the government is the one that makes all the roads, why don't they have some sort of master record for all the infrastructure? Each province/state should be responsible for every foot of road and every bridge within their jurisdiction.

Mark there should be a way to disable tnd dock on boot right in the program itself.

Dealt with Mark quite a bit on this one. Despite being out of warranty, it was sent back a couple times, and got worked on. The customer service I received was amazing and it is very obvious to me that they care about their customers and making this product better.
Turns out that none of that stuff fixed it, and it turns out that the issue had nothing to do with the GPS unit itself.
Bought a cheap FM modulator for my iPod at a truck stop the same week my GPS started having problems. I run 98.1 FM on it quite a bit, since that gives me the best reception around Roanoke, and I spend more time there than anywhere I go.
For whatever reason, that FM modulator messes with a GPS signal when set to that station. Turning it off brings the GPS back to perfect, and it never acts up at all when set to any other station.Mark Kling Thanks this. -
