I am running recommended resolution of 1920x1080 on Toshiba Qosmio. It's not a huge problem and can live with it,just thought it was a problem with the install.

If you lower the resolution does it behave normally?

    Thanks,
    Mark

One word for TND710 - JUNK!!!!!
I bought one as a Christmas present from my wife in December. Did not put the unit in my truck until after Christmas. It lasted until early March when the screen shut off and would not come back on. Sent into Rand McNally and they replaced it with a refurbished unit. That unit worked for two weeks until the power board went bad. Sent that unit back and two weeks later received the same refurbished unit back "repaired". Received it on Friday, did the update and put it into the truck. Went out on Monday and it lasted two hours before crapping out again. Just shipped it back again after making four calls on consecutive days asking for a new unit as a replacement before being told that I would get a test unit next time not the same unit. Rand McNally's staff have been very nice except that when I asked for the new unit on the first call and was told that her manager needed to get permission from her manager to approve my request and that they would call me back, which they never did. I wish I had spent my money on a Garmin.

Leave the 710 unplugged for 12 hours, then plug into AC for 3 hours. Once the light turns green press the on button. Once you get to the accept screen press the reset button on the side.

It sounds like your DC cord is a little loose and not giving you a full charge. I would gently squeeqe the USB end of the DC cord to provide a tighter fit. Wrap the extra cord around the bracket. You can tell on the main screen if you see a lighting bolt in the battery icon is it connected to a power source. If you see a battery icon that has green in it then this means you are not on a power source.

Let me know if this helps..

    Thanks,
    Mark

The power cord was brand new that came with the unit when it returned from repair. When the power board went bad the first time the mini usb plug would get very warm and the red power light would not stay on. If you moved the power plug the red charge light would go on and off. The charge light was doing the same thing this time except that the plug was not warm. I am sorry if the plug does not fit right when it is brand new from the factory, that is poor quality control on RM's part. Also after it quit the second time when I was able to get the unit to come back on the loading status bar on the bottom and the logo's did not come up. I waited five minutes before I hit the reset button and it went off and did not come back. During the days I was out I managed to get it to come on for a minute or two before it cut off again. I cannot tamper with the plug now because I have already shipped the unit back, I believe that the problem is in the unit not the plug itself. We will see what happens with the unit that they send me next time.

Also the power light would go on and off with both the AC and DC plugs.

    Mark Kling Thanks this.

Changing resolution or dpi settings is counter productive as I have an 18.3 in high def 16.9 screen. Can only change to 96 dpi and is the same. Lower res just gives me less screen, so will just have to live with it. BTW you didn't say whether there was a way we could get the Dashboard feature on older models, would prob. be just a small program to be downloaded. Thanks again for your input.

Adding features from one model to another is something Rand is thinking about, but nothing in the works yet.

    Thanks,
    Mark

reserved for future use. Usually when Map updates come out they are on the SD Mini or Micro.

    Thanks,
