Driving mode - stop for 15 minutes then to On-Duty, 15 minutes in On-Duty then to off Duty.

Their is a slight issue in the auto mode that when you are in auto mode the 14 hour clock keeps counting down.

In manual mode it asks you if you are on a DOT break when switching to Off-Duty, in auto mode it does not. My mistake on this when I wrote the specs.

It has been corrected and will be on the next version.

The reason we stay only 15 minutes in On-Duty is the majority of companies will allow you a 15 minute drop to line 4 and then you can go to line 1 or 2 to stop the 70 hour clock. Most companies have a letter from the DOT allowing this. No sense in sitting in a dock for 8 hours and eating your 70.

    Thanks,
    Mark

    I'm using the TND 510.

What is the "Trails" function added in this last update?

I can't seem to find any info on this feature.

Also it seems that the functionality of the "Road Information" bar on the "Route Map Window" has been greatly reduced as of this last update. In the past I relied on that function to tell me the nearest town when I stop on the side of the road for a load check. It seems that now it only lists major towns and cities and only when I'm actually in the town. Often times the bar just sits there blank as I pass through smaller towns.

I'm also wondering about better support for traveling in Canada.

    I would like to see:

    • speed limits shown...the unit will show my KPH but not the posted limits.
    • accurate curve, hill, strong wind etc warnings... as it is now, I get no wind and hill warnings and sharp curve warnings get spit out at random intervals even when driving on a highway so straight I'd love to see any sort of curve.
    • better address support... at least 30% of the addresses I try to enter for Canada come up as do not exist. I have to manually scroll the map to the location and do a "navagate to here" and then it will list the address exactly as I tried to input it in the first place.
    • Better truck route support... I get routed down "no truck" roads a little too often for comfort.
    • more accurate maps... just this week I followed the shipper's directions out of Brooks, AB to Highway 36 while the 510 was convinced I was headed down a dead end road and needed to u-turn back onto a couple of "no truck" streets to go through the center of town.
    • rest area support... I don't think I've ever had success trying to find a rest area along my route.
    • to be anounced...
All of these functions work pretty well in the US. Why not in Canada?

Ok today my 710 just suddenly stopped working. Turned it back on and stayed on for about 2 minutes. Was displaying yellow light on side, then I waited a while, plugged back in and had green light for about 5 minutes then it died again. Replugged in, wouldn't come on but displayed red light, now yellow again. Help? Had this unit about 2.5 months.

Get used to that. The Rand McNally TND 710 is a great product- when it works. I had one, I should have read the reviews. It's like the perfect gps system, with one flaw- it crashes constantly and it's not dependable.

Well luckily I have my back up Rand McNally... Motor Carriers Atlas. Guess I just stick with what's dependable. :)

This isn't a "review" thread. Its somewhere to go when you're having problems. My 510 works flawlessly - especially if I reboot it occasionally.

True, which is why I'm constantly reading this thread...

Also, why are you telling us how flawlessly your 510 works if this isn't a review thread, and only for problems?..

I get tired of certain drivers constantly running the product down.

I love the TND 710. I did. It's an amazing tool. But reading reviews along with my own personal experience, I've got to call it like I see it. The guy Mark here is a beta tester for them. He reads these. If they would make sure it worked consistently then they've got it made. But it doesn't and that's where the problem is.

Well after letting it sit for about 5 hours I fired it up again and it locked up. Restarted it and so far it stayed on. I shut it down and turned it back on and it still worked. Will see what it does in the morning.
