No manufacture goes out and measures any drop box and makes their box within those specifications.

It does not charge on AC. Since the battery lasts only a short period of time, It does not make sense to stop for long periods of time to recharge on DC and the DC charge cord is not long enough to reach from my sleeper to the dash. Besides it should function with the AC charger, that is what I paid for.

I think you got your AC and DC reversed. In asking about AC, this would narrow the issue down to the DC cord or the TND. If it charges on AC then the DC cord is the issue, if it does not charge on AC then the TND is the issue. If the DC cord is the issue, you can gently squeeze the USB end of the DC cord and wrap the extra cable around the bracket. This would help maintain a good connection.

In determining if the TND or the DC cord is the issue. If the DC cord is the issue then you would be sending back a working TND and loss of such for several weeks when the TND is not the issue.

Just for reference.. the AC and DC cord both provide 5vdc, 1amp (5") or 2amp(7") to pins 1 and 5 of the USB connector of the TND... in other words.. the same power levels are provide by both power cables, it is just the power end that is different being DC or AC.

I do still have the unit, but it is boxed and ready for shipment tomorrow when I have to drive to town to take it to a UPS store to use the shipping box from RM.

No I do not expect them to provide me with shipping supplies. Your question is petty and childish. And yes I could go to the post office and buy a smaller shipping box that would fit in a UPS drop box but I believe in reusing boxes such as the one they shipped the unit to me in and I don't want to pay $4.00 plus for a box each time I send this POS back. I am simply suggesting that they consider using a smaller box that can be reused and that will fit in a UPS drop box.

Truck stops get many boxes in and in many different sizes. You could ask the manager if they have one. But, if you look at the internal packaging... the suction cup when folded over takes up about 80% of the height.

If you are shipping it back at your expense,, you can use USPS certified, Fed-Ex, or UPS. Fed-Ex will come to your house to pick it up. You can call in and prepay on the phone. UPS I believe will also pick up packages.

The comment about packing material was in humor... just wondering.. if you bought a TV... would you make an issue if it did not fit in your car to take it home?

Why is it that some of these truck gps's have so many issues? Ive got two "car" gps's that i have never had problems with, and they get me where i gotta go.

I can not be all cords from RM. I have changed the power cord every time they have sent this unit back to me. I tried wrapping the cord around the bracket in order to get it to make a good connection but sometime it does and sometimes it does not. As I said in an earlier post, there is a quality control issue if three power cords can not make a good connection.

When someone pays top dollar for a GPS, I should not have to play around with the power cord to try to get it to work. I expect it to work now and forever.

1. Does the TND charge on AC? You should get a green light in about 3 hours.

2. Did you lightly squeeze the USB end of the DC cord to provide a snug fit?

3. Did you check to make sure your DC connector is getting a firm connection in your DC socket? Most trucks the DC socket is not a deep socket and the DC plug will "slide" out due to the spring not in the socket completely. Bouncing around the DC plug will slide out slightly, thus you are not getting a good connection. This is more critical with the 7" unit as it takes more power to drive the HD screen.

4. If the issue is with the DC cord, then this needs to be addressed and sending the entire complete TND does not resolve the issue. It is not a power board issue. If it charges on AC, then this shows the power board is working correctly to charge the internal battery.

I am pretty sure that if you Googled your models that you would see issues also.

It looks like many issues, but due to the length of the thread a lot of the issues are the same. I usually end up repeating comments every 5 pages.

Call Rand Support, make sure you have your receipt. It is less than one year old it is covered by warranty. It is called loss of pixels or simply lines in the screen.

I just bought my very first Gps. The RM 510, so far it works great. I'm still learning all the tools on it, but a very useful tool to go along with my laminated gps

No issues as of yet on my 710 except the following, which is actually more of a question. How many custom POI's can I put in this thing? I have 199 that I need to put in and it only allows 50 of them. Inserting a micro SD doesn't seem to help any.
