I received my lifetime maps for my 500 and followed the directions...I didn't get a box indicating it's updating after 40 minutes...Help?!

Did you have it plugged into AC when you had inserted the SD Card?

    Thanks,
    Mark

If you backup the first one, then you can restore to the 2nd one all your user information.

    Thanks,

I had it turned off and yes, it was plugged into AC(#1 on the list of instructions sent with it)...I followed them to a T...I just got off phone with support, they said there hasn't been a new database issued in a long time, I even told them mine was over a year old, they said the new one comes out in about 3 weeks and that it would update automatically when I plugged into TND...I have to say, that sounded strange that there hasn't been a new map update since I bought this unit almost a year and half ago...Can you confirm that?

I actually called twice and spoke to 2 different people, the first told me it had to be plugged into computer with Dock on to update, I told her the instructions don't say that, she put me on hold and we got disconnected...I called back and the 2nd person told me the above...

If you have the 500 (T5B, T5C, T5E) model then you are on one of the two maps. We call them 8/19 or 2/19. If you just bought the Map update then you would in fact be buying a map version you do not have. The update should have run a small script on your TND, but the Maps stay on the SD card.

I am not sure of the time frame but the next set of Maps is due out soon I think. These would be different than what is on the Map update SD Card. If you have purchased the Maps as LTM (life time maps) then you would be getting the next set of maps via the Dock. You would need a code to unlock the update. I am not sure how those on LTM would get the code.

Anyway, if you are computer savvy you could look under the Navi/user folder and see if you see a file called navigation.lic. If is it missing then the script ran. The new license is on the SD Card. You would need to retain the SD Card in the TND you installed it on to be using the new maps.

If you have a 510 or 710 then the Map update card offered on the Rand website would not work on your TND's as your TND's have this set of maps already.

    Thanks,
    Mark

It said it would show a box as it updated, if I turn it on, it still says my maps are over a year old, I'm assuming nothing happened...WHen you say 8/19 and 2/19 are those dates?...If so, I bought mine 1/2011...SOmething isn't right...

I don't imagine the weather packet would be all that large. I have a good weather app on my phone and it hardly takes a bite out of my data plan. Hardly notice it in fact.

You are correct. It isn't very much. I just haven't piped up about it yet because I like to give you guys exact numbers when I provide test data and I don't have the precise usage number on it yet. Still playing with the scenarios because it has multiple weather screens that provide different data (temperature, winds, humidity, etc) and I want to make sure that one doesn't use different amounts that they others or something.

However, I can concur that it is not a significant data hit in relation to the average plans that drivers are using. Plus, you would not likely keep it constantly updating weather all the driving day in normal cases in my estimation either. It is rather awesome-looking though. I gotta hand it to Rand engineers on this feature...

The only thing that really bothers me about the 720 is that Pilot/ Flying J advertised it in Challenge magazine ( Pilot's in house publication) before RM even released the thing to the stores. I've questioned a lot gms about when it is supposed to hit the stores and havn't received anything but I don't know from any of them. I was told today though that they are clearence pricing the older ones to get them off the shelves. Good time to buy a 710 or 510 right now.
