I am receiving the "maps are over 1 year old" message when I turn on my 510 I bought at the end on December 2011. I sent in the paperwork for the free lifetime updates. I plug my gps into my laptop and check for updates at least every 2-3 weeks. Still nothing. Are the new maps out yet? I did get the new software update and am not very happy with it. Since I updated a few weeks ago my gps takes longer to calculate a route and freezes up way to much. Most of the time I have to restart it to get it to work again. Not good when in a city trying to find my way around. Never froze up before the update. And the Georgia to California run I just did was a nightmare with the freezes. I about threw the gps out the window. I am considering selling it off for a bill and just getting a garmin if this keeps up. I am on version 11.95.2258.1629
Os version. A4.qc.rm.2t510.110122
Map version 1101217
I'll pm serial number to you

As for the freezing I would also delete a file in the navi/user folder. I will let you know what file also.
I will query Rand and see if a date is projected for the new maps.

Had a scare the other morning. My 710 went dead, nothing. Called tech support and was told that the battery over time loses memory for lack of a better explanation. The tech told me to unplug is and let it sit overnight. Plugged the power into it the next morning, turned it on and Viola. A few times now, the screen has stared blinking/flashing so at that point I just unplugged the power cable and let it run until low battery shut-down. In regards to the sound not working, I connected the external speaker output to a "Y" adapter which shares audio input to my radio with my XM radio. I now have sound from my 710. This will be my work-around until I get time to send my unit in for repair.
Also I noticed another thing. When you look for a POI along your route, destination, or near your truck, the listings shows one figure for mileage then when you add that POI as a Via or destination, it gives you a higher mileage figure. It looks like straight line distance when it's listed but then when it calculates, it gives actual distance. I suppose there is not enough processor and memory to give actual mileage figures when it lists the POIs. Close enough to make choices though. In all, still a great device. -
My car gps does the same with the miles. It's the algorithm it uses. Finds the location but until you select the location it does not calculate the exact route.

And thank you mark. I'll let you know how it does over the next few days.

"Lithium-ion batteries are common in consumer electronics. They are one of the most popular types of rechargeable battery for portable electronics, with one of the best energy densities, no memory effect, and only a slow loss of charge when not in use"

By the way the Crow flies is the way the mileage is shown. For the TND to calculate each stop along your route from your location would take time. I usually say add 15% to what is show to get a rough estimate of the distance. Once you route to that location then yes you would get a more accurate mileage.
