I just purchased the TND 720 and I am having issues getting my laptop to see it so I can transfer my addressbook over from my TND 710. My laptop has no issues seeing my 710. Even when I put an SD card in the TND 720 it won't even see the memory card. What am I doing wrong?

Mark, I bought a 710 at the MATS show at Rand Mc Nally stand, the sales lady convinced me it was the best and she took down all my details after I purchased it, I assumed there would be no problems with it and if there was you had a record of the transaction. I paid cash. The unit has directed me down several 10, 5 and even 3 thousand pound weight restricted roads. I have a ticket from the Police in PA for being 76000 pound on a 10000 max weight road. I called your tech support several times and got the run around each time. Yesterday I talked to a manager who said "well most people have no problems with it" He said there was nothing they could do without the receipt I told him you had my information. I have since bought the Cobra GPS.
This is very wrong, This unit does not do what it is meant to do properly.
It does not have a lot of the street addresses in its database. The worst of all is your support, IT IS ABSOLUTELY DISGRACEFUL.
If you can help, my email is bgils143@gmail.com -
thanks,
Mark -
I will E-Mail you also.
Thanks,
Mark -
Mark, you say contact tech support on Monday, WHY?. I have contacted them several times, several times I was told "someone in that department will call you back" no one ever did. I was told we cannot help you as you dont have the receipt and yesterday a MANAGER said, and I quote "well most people have no complaints with it"
This is extremely frustrating, Rand Mc Nally are by far the worst after sales service provider I have ever dealt with.
Your unit costing almost $500 is not doing what I bought it to do and your company is coming up with every reason they can find not to fix it or replace it -
Sir, I do have.to.say thatbwhen u start ure GPS it does specifies ure responsible to obey laws and regulations, But I do understand what ure saying, because on my last trip to Mason Ohio, the GPS 720 guided me two gimes to go thrubresidential.streets, Nd It was common sense not to but nevertheless, I felt dissapointed, because it should have not done that..... I must say that I do keep d receipts always, but I now doubt McNally listens to drivers inputs I sent them on 2 ocassions a month ago A street called Grizzly lane on smithsville tennesse and even told them what usiness is there Federal Mogul # 1 and it still doesnt show......But I must say I fairly Trust the GPS, and Im not 100% happy but it has helped me in 9 out of 10 ocassions.

The selling price at MATS was not $500.
But, in your case I have contacted Rand Support and you have called several times in regards to routing. If you know the route or road in question then Rand Support can verify if the restriction is in place or corrected in the next map set which is on the TND-720. When you wanted the 710 exchanged their policy is that you must have a receipt. You stated it must be at home and hung up on them. You contacted me via E-Mail and you mentioned you are at home. Did you find your receipt? I would also note here that yes I do monitor this thread and my E-Mails after hours and on weekends. If I do not answer an E-Mail until later after you send it, it is because it is after hours.
No GPS will be 100% correct in restrictions or mapping. Conditions are always changing and it does take some time to get this data into the map set.
If the TND routes you on a road and there is a posted sign for a restriction you should obey the posted sign. If no sign is posted and it is restricted then by all means report it back to Rand. It will not be available in the map set you are currently using, but it will be included in the next map set. Restrictions as well as speed limit signs are tied to the map set.
If you submit a Tell Rand, yes we do see and read them. I myself get a copy daily as well as others. Each person looks at them and if you submitted a route or restriction issue Rand verifies them and as mentioned submits a correction to the map set or updates the restriction database. Again you will not see them in the updates via the Dock. They will be pushed when a map set is available.
Common sense prevails in running a route. If the road does not look right then use common sense. The GPS is a Tool.
Thanks,
Mark -
Mark, thanks for your help, I do not have the receipt, I obviously lost it. Tell me, when the GPS tells you to turn right and the sign is on the road you have just turned onto, what do you do then in a Tractor Trailer, I cannot reverse back onto the road i have just come off.
Before I throw this in the garbage is there anything that I can do to update/reset the unit.
I just want to be able to use it -
If you know the road then I can verify if it has been added/corrected in the next map set.
Not every restriction will be in any map set. The local government could have put up the sign and not informed the state of this restriction. If this happens then the restriction does not make it into the restriction database.
If you have a copy of the ticket, then the road in question should be on it. If not E-Mail me the start and end locations or put the route into your 710 and look at the Turn by Turn list and see if you spot the road in question.
Thanks,
Mark
