You know, one of the most common problems with these forums or any forum, is the sin of presumption. Don't go looking for what isn't there because you will find it.
Goodbye, good luck, and thanks for all the fish. Now if you will excuse me, I have a dog to feed.

This is just an inquiry out of curiosity, not a slam at anyone or anything. I love the TND 720 so far and am not really interested in the weather function at all. I would have bought the unit even if it didn't have that. Unless there is a major hazard such as tornado or black ice, or road closure in Wyoming, I pretty much have to drive on regardless. It also seems like the best info about immediate local conditions like that is still from the CB. For those that do rely on the weather forecasts, is it just to know what to expect, to change your route, change your schedule or what? Thanks

I know if you see high winds ahead of you and you are either light or empty, it would be wise to shut down till the winds calm down. I know I have had 4k in the box and shut down as a company driver. I was getting blown all over the place. Dispatch does not understand it does not take much to get blown over and the driver has to think of their safety, their truck, and the lives of the motoring public around them.
The weather feature gives you an indication to what is ahead so you can make smart informed decisions.
Thanks,
MarkRalph4159 Thanks this. -
You wanted on the spot weather as you drove which as I explained the TND calls to the weather function x times in x minutes.
Thanks,

Lol. Just read the last few posts on here.
I, personally, think RM made a mistake with good intentions by putting weather on the gps. Just because of the reactions and complaints like I've seen in here.
If your phone has hotspot/wifi capabilities then it's probably a smart phone. I just use weather channel and weather bug apps. Yes I know we are not supposed to use our phones while driving. But I can know my route and pull up the weather map. Looking at it I can put in the cities along my route and look at their forecasts. Only takes a few minutes at most. I do this before I take off.
I see the weather function on the RM 720 a selling point and needless function. Most free wifi spots are not going to be picked up on the move and again if I have wifi hotspot on my phone it'd be easier to just use it. If your worried about instant (or near real time) weather updated then leave the weather app open and glance at it from time to time when safe to do so.
Just a suggestion and not meaning to step on toes or start an argument.

I just wanted to say I'm extremely disappointed with Rand McNally! Mark thanks for trying to get my 710 going but unfortunely it didn't work. After my first 710 quitting working after a month and them sending me a replacement that didn't work at all, I just talked to customer service and the best they can do is have me send back the newest piece of junk and wait for yet another rebuilt replacement! I will be selling it as fast as I can to get rid of it. Such poor customer service for something that costs so much! I know they have gone to the 720 now and I hope they have worked out the kinks but NOONE should ever buy a 710 piece of junk! And with the poor customer service, I'm not sure I would recommend anything they sell!
