Just a idea... have you tried it in your car to see if you get the same results?

With the TND and PeopleNet both dropping off at the same time, leads me to believe something in the truck might be causing the issue. - This being mentioned since no other reports of Loss of GPS.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Not yet but I guess ill put the serving platter I mean 720 in my pick up next time home. Then ill pray for heavy overcast and rain and then drive around for hours until it happens.

Lol yes that was sarcasm. ..

Again has only happened once or twice on clear days. Every other time it was bad overcast and/or raining. Thats why I find it hard to believe its something in the truck. I appreciate the ideas but its hard to recreate the conditions when I only know of one that's consistent. I am willing to try the pick up but I'm usually on my bike when home and I cant see trying to ride around with a 720 attached. And I don't drive much when home so it would be s short experiment.

Ill run the 510 for awhile with the 720. Ill see iff the 510 goes out when the 720 and peoplenet do. Of course it'll probably be weeks until it happens again now.

GPS SIGNAL TROUBLESHOOTING METHOD (or at least one way anyway...)

Do you have a smartphone? If so, there are a ton of free apps that may offer some aid in troubleshooting GPS signal issues. I use one called "GPS Status" but just do a search in the iTunes or the Google Play Store (depending on your device) for GPS status, or GPS signal, etc. and you will see a bunch of them. An app will give you a lot more info than the GPS will.

Look for how many it sees in the sky verses how many it can use currently. And look for a reading called "Dop" or "Doppler." That number is telling you the overall strength of the combined signals where you are currently. The lower the number, the better the strength.

You can use an app like this to test for the best placement of the GPS in the cab of the truck, to compare the GPS reading to what the phone says, to see if any of your other electronic devices are interfering with the signal, etc.

Just an FYI for other people perusing this thread as well who are wondering about GPS signals.

Just got one. So far it all matches up pretty close to my 720. Next time I get the "no gps" alert ill fire up the app and see what it says vs. The 720.

The 510 may not be affected by this. What model of PeopleNet is yours? Do you run Traffic on the 720?

    Thanks,
    Mark

I'm noticing it (tnd520) often changes routes when recalculating an existing route (after stopping at a via, after restarting the unit after being unplugged, etc).

Recent example: Savage MN to Laredo TX -- ~1390 miles via i35 vs ~1350 miles bypassing OKC via 169/75. 9 out of 10 times it seems to take the longer route regardless of settings ( freeway allow vs prefered or shortest vs fastest) & I can't figure out why or how to "lock in" a route so I can add vias without recalculating...

    Preferences/Route/Recalculation - turn to Manual.

If you are at a via point and do decide to go a different route be sure to hit the recalculate button that will pop up. If you wish to stick to the original route, once you leave the Via point head back to the route line.

    Thanks,
    Mark

I do not run the wifi. My traffic cable adaptor works just fine. I can unplug and replug if traffic needs reset. I don't rely on it enough to waste bandwidth on the wifi for traffic and weather. May be useful for some but a waste of bandwidth for me.

Short answer: yes but not on wifi

    Lol

Ill have to get back to you on the peoplenet.

I had tnd 500 and used the trade in offer for the 720.
im on the road now and yesterday it stopped charging when being used.
today all of a sudden it seems to have totally died, all I get is a bunch of colored lines
    oj the screen.
i hit the reset button and it looks as if its going to boot up but the lines come back and the screen goes black.

    road check plz

my 720 will not route me over the overpass I-75 ex 120 Lexington, ky. yesterday I was north bound on I-75 and put in the truckstop on the west side of that exit..... it wanted me to go up to ex125 and take back roads back....? when i took the off ramp (ex 120) at the end of the ramp it wanted me to turn EAST and go 9 miles of back roads instead of turning west and going over the overpass and turning into the truckstop..... when I turned into the truckstop it said no legal route could be found.....
