Even with your settings, Route 1 and 2, do not go the way you wish. True is looks that way, but if you hit route 2, then on map screen go to the right side (3 arrows/lines), tap on that, then at the bottom under Route Display Options, tap on Highway view. You will notice that I-70 is not your primary route.
Going back to Post 6600, with those settings you will see the route you are wanting.
Now I do understand the "ReCalc" issue, I am looking into that. I think that might be giving the I-80 route on a unplanned stop.
But, based upon your settings, the 720 is giving you a route. Change to Freeways - Prefer and Shortest will route you the way you want.
ROUTE - FASTEST
FREEWAYS - ALLOW ALL
I know you were on I-70 for your route, but with Freeway - Allow, I-70 is not considered a primary route, I-80 is.
I am looking into this also.
A lot of factors go into how a road is rated and what classification is given. You see a road, the database sees a bunch of settings that are in the map data for each segment of road.
I am still looking into the Truck stop issue of the closed exit.
Thanks,
Mark

"I called in about 6-8 weeks ago because the unit was doing strange things - I believe I visited with David. Whenever I am headed west, the routing on the unit gets odd. I can be running an obvious I80/I76 route from PA to Denver, and the thing will want me to drop down onto I70, adding almost 200 miles - not shorter OR faster. It will also want me to go north into Chicago and then take I88 west to Davenport rather than staying on I80 to start with. Dave agreed that there was something odd going on. He suggested I experiment with the Prefer Interstate and Avoid Small Roads settings, and that if it didn't improve he would replace the unit."
I need the start/stop locations.

"Last week I was heading west on I80 in IN. Planned on getting fuel at the J in Lake Station, but exit 21 on I80 was closed. No problem.....I got on I57 south, and reset the next stop to the Petro in Gary, IN. Got onto I80, the billboard said next exit and the 720 agreed. I've never been to this Petro, so I was relying on it to get me there. It said to head north off of the exit. It kept acting like the Petro was roughly 2 miles ahead. IT LIED. I got to where it took me - into a freaking residential area!"
I am not understanding this one. You are in IN going West, but you say you got on I-57 South. I see I-57 being in IL.
The Petro is on Exit 9 on I-80 in IN.

My mistake there. It was I65 that I took south. That takes you back to I80. I57 isn't that far away, and I was working from memory. My apologies.

When I originally selected the southern route, I saw the following map, only as I recall it said the mileage was 1703 - again I had exact addresses. This is definitely an I70 routing.
This isn't a matter of it giving me the route that I wish. It is a matter of it giving me one route, and then changing to something entirely different along the way. And the route that it changes to is substantially longer and requires substantially more time. In this case, I went from mm123 to mm 50 or so before I put in the Concordia, MO stop to get it back on original AND shortest AND fastest route. Until I did that, it kept trying to shove me north. Also, once I plugged in Concordia, The total miles remaining and time required for the trip DROPPED by approximately 150 miles. So it was not coming up with a route that was shorter OR faster. It was longer and slower.
It is interesting that you mention that I70 is not a primary path. I have had other instances - again when I am headed west, in which I am going from Erie, PA to Denver, CO The shortest and fastest route is to get on I80 in Ohio and then a straight shot to Big Springs, NE then I76 to Denver. But the 720 would try to push me south in Ohio to get onto I70 - which you say is not a primary route. It would do this until I plugged in a stop at the little fuel stop in Shelby, IA. Then it would decide that it was ok to run I80 and I76.
I have only experienced these severe routing errors while travelling WEST. It never burps going east - except that glitch around Davenport, IA. It gets on route, I can leave the interstate for fuel or whatever, and it gets right back on route. If I am headed west, it is a roll of the dice, usually resulting in me having to plug in intermediate stops to get it to quit trying to dramatically change the route.
Thanks,
Joe

This is being looked at. I know what the issue is. Turning off ReCalc might help you. It will retain the original routing if you pull in to a truck stop. The original routing will show up and once you are back on the highlighted routing it will continue.
Thanks,
Mark -
What the compare routes shows is at a distance due to the length of the run. If you looked at the detail routing you would see that I-70 was not primary.
Thanks,
Mark -
Please explain how it was closer OR faster to go up to I80 on the Spiceland Flying J to Loveland route. And does your system show it going up to I80 on that? -
Thanks,
Mark
