So I have crippled functionality that I will need to downgrade my cell phone if I want to use. Gotcha.

On another note, Ogilby off 78 in SE Cal is waaay off. I gave up looking for it after a few miles of it being mentioned as a cross road (shortcut to I-8), and several miles later it popped up. The GPS didn't see it and had my distance to I-8 as 110 miles, and when I turned onto Ogilby, it immediately recalculated to 55 miles.

Your cell phone should support the encryption. I know of one Mi-Fi that runs a different encryption and they just had to change it via the software manager. What model of phone are you using?

I will pop on the other issue later today.

    Thanks,
    Mark

It's a Nokia Lumia (520?). One of the new cheapo W8 phones. No options to change (or even remove) the encryption. It requires a password to use internet sharing.

    Nokia Lumia 520

    Wi-Fi
    • WLAN IEEE 802.11 b/g/n

    • WPA2 (AES/TKIP)

    • PEAP-MSCHAPv2
    • EAP-SIM

Ah,,, Are you setting up a HotSpot with your phone or trying to use Internet Sharing with the 720? The 720 needs to be connected to a Hotspot.

    Thanks,

The only option I see is Internet Sharing, which uses the aforementioned WPA2-whatever.

If you know an alternative, that would be awesome, if & when I sober up a bit to understand more than uh... bed time.

Usually you have to have "HotSpot" enabled by your carrier. This is usually a separate charge that includes a data plan. I am not familiar with the W8 phones but I did find this. You can try this and see what happens.

    http://deviceguides.vodafone.ie/web...set-up-and-use-your-phone-as-a-wi-fi-hotspot/

Note - if you mouse over the Red Text the sample screen will show you what screen it is on.

    Thanks,

If you actually read that link, it explains how to set up Internet Sharing, which is w8's name for wi-fi hotspot.

There is nothing to do with "wi-fi hotspot" on the phone. Just Internet Sharing, which I use everyday to surf the net on my laptop.

The 720 is newer than WPA technology, idk why it's crippled in this regard.

On the TND, on the Map screen when you tap the "I" button towards the bottom right, then WIFI, Enable WIFI, does this screen show the Broadcast Name of your phone?

I might have to stop in a Phone store and take my 720 to see how it works with the W8.

If it acts like a computer does, once the "Sharing" is turned on, the phone should broadcast a "HotSpot" signal. The 720 should be seeing this.

Try to connect the 720 to the phone before you send me the file below.

I will be back in a couple hours. In the meantime, connect your 720 to the computer, open up your E-Mail and send me this file.

Navi/Logs/- scroll all the way to the bottom and send me the last file.

    E-Mail to rmleadbetatester@gmail.com

Yes, it sees the broadcast ID, it appears to connect (with the password, of course), but when I switch over to the weather/fuel prices functionality, it says there is no connection.

    Pardon my frustration.

Also, it will be a while before I can get that file to you. The truck is in the shop.

    Mark Kling Thanks this.
