The different routes available. Routing option is shown on the picture on the lower right when you click on it.

    Thanks,

The problem you described has been an on going issue with Rand McNally. My first unit was the 710 and the usb connection in my unit eventually broke off. My second unit was the 510 and this too happened to it. Now i suspect (and this is only my suspicion) the reason they moved the usb plug was because of this problem yet it did not help. When i did try to get it fixed the big turn off for me was the "FEW WEEKS" they claim it would take.

The x10 units are not one of my favorites. The x20 are much better

Ok, but which unit will do best to prevent you from going towards a low clearance structure and/or find the nearest casino or walmart with a click of a button without erasing your final destination?

The TND will not route you on a road with a low clearance. Unless of course the maps are missing this restriction. Maps will never be 100%..

You can do POI searches and add them as a VIA which will just add them as another stop in front of your final destination.

OK so not sure what happened on the bottom 2 routes you posted, but the go back west to Barstow, ca first... that's where the added miles come in. The first map you linked on the southern route is fine until tucumcari, where it shoots up 54 into Kansas. Imo it should continue on 40 through Amarillo, like the bottom map does. Why, if you go through barstow first, does it route through Amarillo, but if you go from Henderson to Kingman does it route through Kansas? Obviously only concerned with the southern route.

PS. My company is very lenient on the routes I take, but if I left Henderson and went to Barstow first... I'd be getting a phone call lol.

Based upon the settings at the time and the decision the router makes it picks a truck legal route. It may/may not be the route you want, but you can always take your route and the TND will adjust.

    Thanks,

It is annoying -- I've found errant recalculations happen far less often if I add fuel stops as vias.

It must be the maps -- I noticed that routing more than once

If the TND 720 is the best you have used, then I have lost faith in the trucker's GPS industry. I have it and I hate it. There are things that I do like about it, but it's routing is asinine.
