I know there's a long explanation for figuring surcharge. Can someone help me figure it out if I give the numbers? We have 1261 miles, with fuel at $4.899 a gallon. 2 fill ups, one for $981. 29 and the other for $982.87. We are supposed ot get back 100% of the surcharge along with $1.10 a mile. Can anyone help figure this or give me an idea of what we're looking at for a paycheck? Thanks so much!!!!

Fuel surcharge should be $.60-.65/milex1261 miles=$756.60-819.65 + (1261x$1.10)=$1387.1+ FSC= $2143.7-2206.75

Thank You! When you figured out the surcharge, did you subtract $1.15 from the gallon price? I keep reading to subtract that, don't understand why. I did that, then divided by 6 (est. mpg) and got .62, then I took that times 1261 and got 781.82 plus the miles and ended up with 2168.92. Very close to what you got. Just wondering if I did that right and if that's how to do it. ThankYou very much for your help, I sincerely appreciate it!

The amount subtracted from the per/gl price is the cost of doing business. For example a mechanics tools, cake decorators electricity...... This should be factored into your Cost Per Mile {CPM} baseline figures along with all other exspenses {payments, ins. plates, permits/fees, maint. fund, etc.....}
There was a bill in congress to standardize this but of course the oil barons, brokers, and large companies (that buy fuel in bulk) had it shot down.
When figuring your CPM I would figure it for worst case $1.50 base and 6mpg...
My reasearch has shown that no one has a set figure to calculate FSC. I have seen drivers base range from $1.10/gl to $1.50 and milage calculated from 5.0mpg to 6.0 mpg. You need to ask the person you haul for what figures they use to calculate FSC.
The formula is $/gal - base = shipper responsibility /MPG's= FSC/mi
EXAMPLE:
?$4.90? -?$1.50?= $3.40/?6?= $.56/mi FSC
