Surprise paycheck hit: goverened at 62 MPH

Actually they don't wear the same... the front set wears a little faster.

 

I had a CPU on a truck I drove several years ago take a hard crash.

Truck was towed to Cummins and I got a new CPU. The mechanic called
my company to get the governed speed and set that.....

I asked him about the tire size rpms and he set mine correctly and ensured me that only Cummins factory specs were in the CPU.

Long story short....I could out pull and out run any other truck in the fleet.....by about 4 mph.

It got better fuel economy with the new CPU as well..probably because
our smarter than Cummins mechanics hadn't been in there screwing around with settings.

 

I know what ya mean... once the shop guys get into the ECM, havoc ensues shortly thereafter!

 

Speed indicated by GPS would expose that trick pretty fast.

 

We're talking back in the mid to late 90s......GPS????????

Sorry... I didn't realize we were referring to the "stone ages".

Well then... the ol' stopwatch between milemarkers is pretty accurate too.
