where do yall get your numbers from ?
    A 65mph truck running 700 miles verses a 75 mph truck,the 75mph trucks gets to
end of 700 12 min before the 65 mph truck providing both drivers can sit in the seat
    for said duration.

Acouple hundred in fuel savings goes to the 65 mph truck

I have been complaining about 72 mph.....i better learn to like it.
Our old trucks would run 80..
I still notice at 72 i can make decent time if i keep the left door shut.

The difference in fuel mileage from the faster trucks is we are averaging .3 to .5 mpg better.

That's about right... I've heard the number .1 mpg per mph slowed down.

So run the numbers... take 72, and run it down to 62. Your 5.5 mpg truck goes to 6.5 mpg. At $4.20 gal (neglecting discounts) and running say 130,000 miles per year - that's a $15,272 savings per year. Run fuel to $5.00 per gallon and its up to $18,181 per year. You can see the point. 10 trucks? 100 trucks? That money starts really piling up.

When the owner starts getting squeezed, y'all can expect exactly what happened in 2008 - you're going to get castrated. If you have one of those wide-open trucks, and are getting less than 6.5 mpg - you'd be well advised to start working on your driving technique and voluntarily slowing down. That way you can KEEP that top end for when you need it.

I don't know where my trucks cuts off at. 65 - 67 is my norm for getting down the road... might kick it up to 70 if I absolutely must get somewhere pronto. It's not my truck, and I operate with a simple philosophy - keep the boss man happy, and I keep my job. I want to go back to local work, naturally, but if I have to be an OTR driver to stay employed, then I've found someone I'm pretty happy working for. If he one day cut the truck back to 62 MPH, I'd be a bit bummed about it, but such is life.

My carrier got serious about fuel in '08. They instituted a minumum mpg requirement... but also gave us a fuel bonus. The minimum started at 6.25 mpg, went to 6.5 and is at 6.75 mpg - where it's stayed. That's not all that hard to achieve. If you made the cutoff, they left your truck alone. If not... it got neutered.

Bonus was 1-cpm, with an additional .1 cpm for every .1 mpg above the cutoff.

You need to check your math on time/distance.

    Refigure your fuel savings too.

You're out to lunch on both.

This is one of those "no win" threads..Here is my take..The company I currently work has their trucks governed at 62mph..,in my world,NO WAY will I EVER do that..I got on with an owner who has 10 trucks leased on with company, and I can go 76mph if need be;never have yet though.,usually on the Interstate,65mph,and having the POWER to pass a 64mph truck is great...BUT....being also hand-cuffed with e-logs,last Friday I delivered in Omaha,Ne at 11am,And had to bounce 60 mi south of York,Ne for a reload..,drove 72mph on I-80,and just made it before they closed...point-I would not have at 62mph...OKAY,for you owners on this thread,I understand your going slower for fuel economy.,but, honestly now,YOU NEVER open it up if the situation dictates.? If the answer is no,I find that hard to believe...Footnote,the company driver's despise us contractors because we CAN open it up,yet they signed on knowing what they were getting into...Figure that one out..:biggrin_2556:

Correct, and why should I like it that I have to give the company this extra time for free? Oh yeah, because my name is not on the door. Gosh you truckers come up with some good points.

I will go 45 miles an hour, the minimum speed for a freeway in Texas, just compensate me for my time and don't insult me with the potential of "points" and "Prizes". What are we boyscouts selling candy bars for a prize?

No, I signed up for one deal, and the deal has been changed only in favor of the company. Yes, yes.... I know... find another job.

    I plan on it.
