Yup if they pass you 2-3 times in 500 to 700 miles then they eat up part of the 1 hour 26 minutes ( if both drove straight throgh ) stopping at Truckstops.

Your arguing against the info you originally provided.

You see that all the time. A passenger car will fly by you. Then 30 miles up the road they fly by you again. Then the same again 30 more miles up the road. Then you get stuck in traffic and they are the first to come walking up asking you to ask on the cb what the hold up is.

Truck drivers are no different. I love to use the cruise. Just set it at 65 set back and enjoy the radio. It's boring and not as much fun as the 55 to 75 back to 55 then 78 to 62 then stop and go at every rest area. You will get better fuel economy and less wear and tear on your truck when you keep it slow and steady.

When I switched from company driver to O/O I had the tractor turned down to 65 to save a couple of bucks on fuel. When someone wants to pass I will move over and tip my hat as they go by while listening to them complain about fuel cost on the radio.

Pssst.... back row most truck stops and a crisp $50 will put her back where she was...... just don't get seen or caught by Uncle Tom and watch your mpg. Get your toaster by dropping a $20 in the tank once in awhile.

Turn my truck down to 62 without additional compensation and I'm gonna walk.

    Let's plug some numbers in...

    One hour driving 70mph # .32cpm = $22.40/hr

    One hour driving 62mph # .32cpm = $19.84/hr

That's a pay cut of $2.56 an hour! Not exactly chump change. Would drivers accept a corresponding cut in the cpm? Not likely... Let's look at what the cpm would be if the company were to cut the drivers rate instead:

    $19.84 / 70mph = .28cpm (approx)

So when you tell me company drivers can't see beyond their nose, you insult my intelligence.

If the company is on the rocks and the boss isn't making any money because of the price of fuel, I may be willing to accept a temporary pay cut for a short time... But to turn my truck down and then offer me a ####### toaster to make up for it? That's a shell game and homie don't play dat.

BTW, I haven't read the whole thread yet, so if someone else has already done the math... sue me. :biggrin_25522:

With that applied to both trucks and drivers........

the faster truck STILL beats you by the same amount of time.

Why don't you just quit now and let your brain rest for about a week.

Bad advice, especially if they have a Qualcomm equipped truck.
