So, We got a blown ISX in a 05' Peterbilt 379. The boss wants me to take a 60 Series Detroit out of a 04' Freightliner Classic and put in the Pete. Now, I've already made my mind up that this decision is going to turn into way more time and money then it's worth. I have reasons why, but would like to hear your reasons why this can or can't be done...all comments on this subject are welcome and the more the marrier!

Run the classics save the headache. Heck does your boss need a driver for the classic?

That 379 was not designed to have a Detroit engine. And even if you could get it mounted in how would you get all the wiring to work together on it. And all the other components around the engine.

    Legal reason.
You cannot go backwards in engine build year.

Is it engine build year - or the year the engine emissions is built/certified for, that matters?

In the motor coach world, many coaches are built with engines that are older than the coach's build year.
For example my 2005 Monaco (Beaver) motor coach has a CAT C13 (525 HP) with a build date of 2004.

Supposedly the coach manufactures bought a bunch of chassis and engines, and then used them as orders came in, so older engines in newer models was common.

You would need to take the engine to firewall harness off and send it to malk industries. They will rewire it all to work with that Detroit.
The rest is just nuts and bolts. Probably have to rob the engine mounts out of the classic also.

It can be done, it just takes time and money, but every part needed is available.
How many new pete gliders are built with detroits?

I agree with running the classic, and yes we could use a driver for it!

I think in this instance you have it wrong. If for instance both are EPA2004 emissions standards then going backwards wouldnt be illegal since both are using EPA2004 standards. While year build is important the EPA standard would take precedents over the legality of the swap.

In those years a lot off engines were build under the credits system,if you remember.
    A grey area at best.
