New guy here, went too swift academy in October. Hired on the 11-11-16. Currently in Mississippi, just drove 500 miles I believe from Oklahoma city. Anywho it has been a long journey and I see and understand why people quit during the 200 hours. My first mentor did not seat in front at all, was always rushing too get home since he was on a dedicated route. Also he took a 34 reset and didn't contact or return phone calls for 2 days. Then blamed me for not accepting a load on Qualcomm. I didn't even know how too use it at the time. Also was in the sleeper my first time driving on the mountains at night. I was scared as hell, and I really could've used a mentor at that moment. So after 30 awkward hours I switched. Second mentor is a nice guy but has his personal problems. For one, he doesn't ever ever ever drive at night. He will typically start around 6:30am and drive til around 4 or 5 pm. Also takes 1 hour breaks in between. So he will be on duty for 10 hours some days and barely get 350 miles. Then I'll take over and drive 500 miles easy. 1 30 minute break and 1 15. Also neither of my mentors pre planned. And because of it we've been caught in a storm in Oregon a week ago and traffic today. Also he doesn't like too accept a load as soon as we drop. Likes too take too much time, and it's been 2 weeks and only has showered 2x. I shower as much as possible though. I'm at 120 hours. 70 more too go. I will never ever do this again. Alot of this guy's only become mentors because they're lazy too run team but want the extra money. Their are good mentors, but they're scarce at swift. I've met several guys and ladies who went through 4 5 mentors easy. I'm trying too just stick it out and get my own truck. Now my rant is over and now will try too sleep but it's hard when you're on a top bunk in someone else's space.

Hang in there, just get it over with and life becomes much better.

On the brightened side you are seeing firsthand the ways to fail out here.

Some mentors show you what to do, others show you what not to do.

When you do get on your own, never be afraid to ask another driver for advice or help of you don't understand something, or you are not sure.

I don't know many drivers who would not gladly help you out rather than see you tear something up or get yourself in a bind.

Good Luck, it won't last forever.

I'm going through a lot worse situation right now with a trainer. Someday I will post my experience on this forum when I'm not afraid of who might read it..
For now I just suffer and pray I get through it. For every hour I make it without quitting I consider a miracle.
Good luck with Swift and hang in there.

How much longer with the trainer? That's the worst part of starting with a company; the trainer phase.

In Soviet Russia Mentors are removed and the bullet is billed.

You seem to be exceedingly difficult with teamwork two drivers; Wonder what might happen if you begin to resent your short 300 mile in 10 hours to a storm and somone breezed through at 500 miles.

This is not about miles per se. There is a pay you will get and there is a pay that is given to Trainers etc. Hang in there, when you get loose in your own rig I think you will be happy.

I was told before showing up for orientation that it would be 3 weeks. When I showed up it had just been switched to 12k dispatched miles. After two weeks now I probably have 3k miles down and an overweight ticket to go along with it. A ticket that I never would have gotten if I was solo.

We had picked up a load of lumber and as soon as I started driving I told the trainer the load seems very heavy. I had hauled a 40k lb coil days prior so i had a good feel for weight.

Right by the pickup was a Cat scale and I told him we should weight it...would have been a great opportunity also for me to learn how to use the scales, but he said it's good and not to worry.

Right now I'm sitting the weekend in a dirt parking lot with no facilities and haven't showered or changed my clothes in 5 days.

Since I replied to the OP I've decided not to put up with it anymore. Once I figure out how to address my situation to our driver manager I'm going to call...my limit has been reached...

He said dont worry about it? If they expect you to pay, id tell em where to stick it! Get me a new mentor and dont dock me for the ticket. Bad enough its in your name.
