Has anyone on here attended the Swift academy in Phoenix? What was your experience like?

Awesome. Seriously, met great people and had great instructors. I've been solo for about a month now. Anymore questions, ask away.

How long did you have to spend on the road with another driver? What does the pay start out? Thanks man!

I ended up being with my mentor just over 5 weeks, if anything I kind of got a bad deal with that. My mentor was more about making that next load more so than teaching me anything. Luckily I met some drivers when I was out with him who did like to teach and I talk to them almost daily. So that can happen out there.

Pay is low to start (.27 a mile) but after 3 months it goes up, then 6, etc.

Thanks a lot for the reply. I'm really glad you had a good experience. What's the housing like there?

It was really good experience, I'm not trying to be some recruiter either I would totally be straight if it sucked. Heard from others the hotel was good, I lived within 50 miles so I drove.

Hey AZS, I've read and heard from a recruiter that the class schedule there is 5 am to 4 pm 7 days a week, but it still lasts over three weeks. Most of the other programs are three weeks or under. That schedule sounds pretty strenuous. Is it?

I also attended the school in Phoenix. My experience was wonderful and I treasure it. It was also hot and exhausting on the range. LOL

not trying to be a smart ###, but .27 a mile, holy crap, they were paying more then that when i quite otr in 93.

when i started driving otr in 88 i started at .24, have driver wages really stagnated that much?

    imtomj Thanks this.

I hit the orientation in Phoenix April 11. My wife will follow me a couple months later so we can team drive. Really pretty excited and have found a few Swift drivers online that are quite helpful. Be interested to hear from anyone who is preceding me in Phx as to what their experiences are/were.
