I will be going to Swift Academy in Millington in the next month or so. They have a terminal about 15 minutes from my house. I know that there are other options, but this is the best one for me. Will keep everyone posted about my journey. I welcome any information about what to expect, especially from mentors. Thanks.

Just know that you are going to get heckled for even thinking of joining swift, but remember life is, most of the time what you make it. Swift has negatives, but so does every company out there. Every one. Swift, right now is one of the highest or the highest paying "starter" companies. That's pretty important. Swift is a pretty stable company. Swift has lots of benefit choices. No matter where you live or move, most likely you can still work for swift and get some home time. There are plenty more positive things about swift. And yep there are the negative ones too. Oh and hey they do have a good rider policy, that's a big one for me with older kids. I think it's $100 a year for the rider insurance. Anyway I don't know anything specific about Milligan but being close to a terminal may be a bonus in the future for local work, who knows.

I believe that the school has been moved to the terminal in Memphis but I was wrong once before. If you look back far enough or just click on my name you will find a thread that I had going about my life and times at Swift. Swift is what you make it. If they had something to keep me regional and home on the weekends I would probably still be there. The only option they gave me at the time was to go back OTR and the option I took was for them to find someone else to drive my truck.
They do have good equipment, for the most part, and will treat you fairly, again for the most part. If nothing else it is a good way to get your foot in the door at someone else's expense. Put in your year and reevaluate at that time.SHOJim Thanks this. -
I know I have to get started somewhere. Plenty of freight moving through Columbus. I see Swift trucks all over the city.
Just better for me training wise having terminal so close to my house . I can leave car in my garage and hopefully get mentor from this area.
I am sure I could get dedicated or local around here with SwiftGWS Thanks this. -
Welcome to the trucking community and i wish you a "swift' time at training

Can anyone tell me if you come back to your home state to take bmv test after you go out with mentor for your 240 hours?
-
You will test at DMV before going out with a mentor. After range training in Millington/ Memphis you will return to your home state to do road training and then test at DMV. Once you are officially a big bad trucker you will attend orientation and get assigned to a mentor.

I have a question that hopefully someone can help with.
I take Zoloft. Been taking it for years. Is it a no no with Swift? Some companies won't allow it. Just don't want to be sent home because of it. Yes I know I could ask recruiter, but they don't always know. Thanks. -
Can start by looking here www.transportation.gov/odapc/faq

I spoke to my recruiter. He gave me the number to the clinic in Phoenix. Just have to get doctors ok and good to go!
inkeper Thanks this.
