Well I've taken the plunge and am on the bus to Lewiston, ID to begin training with Swift on Monday. I am officially at the mercy of the beast. I really want to thank everyone here who gives so much advice and definitely sheriff for sharing his experience, because that all helped me make the decision to do this. So thanks everyone for steering newbies in the right direction (or as some would say about me choosing Swift the wrong direction).

That said, in the spirit of all that helpful advice from this forum I thought I would start a quick thread about my training experience. Pretty much everything has been said that can be said, so I am not going to detail my day to day as so many others have already done. I thought I'd just make a post for anyone who may have any pressing questions about the latest training experience as I will be going through it starting tomorrow. I suggest anyone who wants the full rundown to check out the posts already here, as these people are amazingly helpful in sharing what they've gone through. Anyway, I'm definitely excited to start learning to drive these bad boys. If I jump on here and start complaining in the future, feel free to say "I told you so." I won't mind.

Good luck, if you say you have been on this site enough to read others stories and still made the leap, Im sure you may have sub consciously prepared yourself enough, to roll with the punches and get the job done whether in good or bad circumstances. Trucking is trucking, you will have bad days. But its what you make out of those bad days that counts. Its worth it if you have done everything right! Look at every side of the problem and ask yourself is this as bad as it was before I made the leap or can I manage this? Keep a level head, dont make off the cuff moves and choices. This career can set you up for life or it can destroy your future and you have to start from scratch. Its all about how you look at things and what your attitude is overall. Again good luck!

Good Luck. Newtrucker48 was right on. I went through the school in Lewiston several years ago. Most people have some bad days. just take it all in stride. Don't let the other people in there get to you when they have a bad day and try to get to everyone else, there are always a couple like that. It'll get frustrating at times, but nothing worth while is ever overly easy. I stopped by the terminal and the school while I was in Lewiston Thursday. The school has moved and seems to be set up better than when I was there. You will also here all the Swift bashing, just do what is best for you. I never had any issues while driving for them, other than the occasional day to day frustrations that are just part of trucking. I was actually over there to see about driving for them again. Some of the same faces were at the school, and they are good people. I'm sure you'll do fine.

It is a lot to learn and intimidating at forst for sure, but you'll get it. They will beat it into your head lol. As Jimroy said they will make sure that you know what you're looking for and talking about. Usually only do one axle as far as brakes, rims, suspension etc.
