I am preparing myself for the academy and trucking in general. I've never driven clutch much less a big ol' tractor hauling a load. I imagine it's as easy as 1,2,3 once you get the hang of it.All I know is that this appears to be great company to start with and if you choose to do so, to stay with.
I just wanted to hear from the drivers themselves on their experiences of the Academy and driving with the mentors? I've heard good and bad.
So if any of you were like me can you explain your experience at the Academy and your 1st time on the road driving by yourself ever

I trained there. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. They have some of the same instructors, but a few different ones too. I was there the other day and they have changed a few things. They are leasing space to other carriers so the school looks like it is limited to the one corner for driving and backing. They use a different motel now , which is probably an inprovement. You are on your own for meals. They don't tolerate any bull, just do what you are told and be honest.

My best advice to you is keep your eyes and ears open during all aspects of training, especially when you are with your mentor. Ask pertinent questions and listen carefully to the answers. If you don't understand something, say so. Learn from your mistakes and don't repeat them.
My first time out the thing that bothered me most was getting passed by another truck and the fear of not having enough room. You get over that pretty quick because everyone passes us.
