Does Swift allow power inverters? If the do, what sizes do they allow? And do they have to be installed by them?

your gonna have to contact swift on this one. contact the safety department or the shop and they will tell you and probably install it for you if you ask nicely.

There are small wattage inverters around 350 to 400 watts that you can plug into a cigarette lighter which are powerful enough to charge your cell phone, run your laptop, power a cpap machine etc. If you want to run a microwave or a full fledged refrigerator then a hard wired inverter will be necessary.

You should get clearance before installing a hard wired inverter into a company truck. I beleive there has been some truck fires due to overheated inverters and this may explain why many companies frown upon them.

  5. I spoke with them today and they said they allow 500's which the shop will install. This was coming from the Sparks/Reno shop so not sure if it is the same everywhere.

500 will run a microwave or a small electric cooler. but i will want atleast 1000w in my truck. if they install a 500w ill just get a 350 to plug into my cig lighter.

I just arrived in Lewiston, Idaho. and first day training is tomorrow....wish me luck =)

  7. Good luck, have fun but take in all you can. I'll see ya on the road. These forums are awesome for info...just remember that while you are in school...do it THEIR way. Afterwards, you can tweak the way you do things, for now...their way.

That must be a new thing. They used to not allow any inverters at all.
